Five Skyhawks registered multi-point games


Wright totaled three points to continue his six-game point streak

FOXBORO, Massachusetts (January 5, 2019) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team returned from break topping non-conference foe Johnson & Wales University Saturday night, 6-2, picking up their second win in three games and holding a 4-1 record at Foxboro Sports Center.

For Stonehill, (4-8-0), five Skyhawks combined for multi-point games including Shamus Maloney and Nick Schofield who scored two goals, while Cameron Wright scored one goal and two assists. Jack Hall and Seth Murray each chipped in two assists. Sean ConleyZachary FramentMike SeoaneConnor Collierand Ryan Meade added in one assist each, as Charles Page notched one goal in the game. Senior goaltender Billy Palmer recorded 31 saves in the game.

As Stonehill held the shot advantage in the first period, 14-11, the Skyhawks also put two goals on board in the opening frame with Schofield sliding one past the Wildcats' Joe Noonan at 8:28 with assists from Meade and Collier for his first goal of the season. Johnson & Wales was called for the first penalty of the game at 12:30 and Stonehill capitalized on the first power play as Schofield found the back of the cage once again for his second goal of the game and first-career power play tally with help from Christopher Page and Conley.

Charles Page extended the Skyhawks lead to three, 3-0, at 3:52 as he scored his third goal of the season after a quick faceoff that was won by Stonehill's Seoane who dropped it to Murray. The Wildcats switched goaltenders following the third goal of the game, and approximately four minutes later in a man advantage, Stonehill saw Wright pick up his fifth goal of the season and 17th of his career for a four-goal advantage, 4-0.

Another four minutes passed, and Maloney dove for the puck and was able to slide it past Tyler Ellor at 12:27 with helpers from Wright and Hall, 5-0. The Wildcats then called a timeout as they were down five goals, 5-0, and benefitted from on a faceoff in their offensive zone as Logan Orem scored at 13:05 to cut the deficit to four, 5-1, with an assist from Anthony Scarcella. Johnson & Wales saw its second power play opportunity at 14:26 and Craig Hessenius and Trevor Momot found Matt Bernot scoring the Wildcat's second goal of the game at 15:38, 5-2.


Hall notched two assists to continue his six-game point streak

In the third period, Johnson & Wales and Stonehill saw two power play opportunities, while the Wildcats pulled Noonan for four minutes late in the game. Before Johnson & Wales was called for a holding penalty at 19:15, the Skyhawks' Maloney scored his second goal of the game for an empty net goal at 19:04, his second of his career and 16th goal of his career.

Stonehill prepares to take on Northeast-10 Conference foe Saint Anselm College for its first two games of the three game series, starting on Friday, January 11 at 7 p.m. followed by Saturday, January 12 at 4 p.m. at Sullivan Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire.
