Ice Hockey Falls in 5-4 Decision to Post

FOXBORO, Mass. (January 27, 2018) – The Stonehill College ice hockey team was unable to get by Post University after the Eagles scored three goals in the second period to take a 5-4 victory Saturday night at Foxboro Sports Center.  

Stonehill (5-12-2) saw four different goal scorers, including Ryan Meade (Tewksbury, Massachusetts/Tilton School), Cameron Wright (West Dummerston, Vermont/Springfield Pics – USPHL Premier), Nicholas Godin (New London, New Hampshire/Tabor Academy), and Shamus Maloney (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/Neponset River Valley Rats). Wright and Godin also tallied assists for a two-point night, while Michael Seibold (), Nick Schofield (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Williston Northampton), and Jack Scannell (Medfield, Massachusetts/Proctor Academy) also registered a helper. Goaltenders Billy Palmer (Cranston, Rhode Island/Boston Bandits – EHL Premier) and Matthew Schoen (Tolland, Connecticut/Phillips Academy) combined for 23 saves.

Post's (2-14-2) goals were recorded by Tyler Hackett, Anthony Giacomin, Nolan Arbuckle, Lucas Smith, and Brian Hurley. Hackett added two assists during the game for a three-point contest, while Smith and Hurley each registered a two-point game. Noah Wild and Costa Pizanis recorded the other two assists, while Brandon Brown notched 46 saves in the second-straight victory.  

Stonehill jumped on board early in the game taking on a 2-0 lead scoring both goals within seven minutes. The first came at 1:04 as Godin found the back of the cage with a pass from Wright. Maloney followed up with his ninth goal of the season at 7:23 as Scannell sent him the puck for the early lead. Post responded with two goals of their own in the first frame, including one at 11:53 from Glacomin and a power play goal at 16:47 from Arbuckle. Pizanis and Wild registered the helpers, respectively.

The Eagles continued the momentum in the second period, scoring a third goal for the Eagles' first lead of the game, 3-2, Hurley slotted Post's second power play goal of the game at 2:22, with helpers from Hackett and Smith. Stonehill responded a minute later at 3:10 with Wright's third goal of the season, tying up the game once more, 3-3. Post picked up the pace once more during the game with two goals in three minutes, with the first one from Smith at 4:18 and the second from Hackett for the third power play goal of the game at 7:16. Hackett assisted the first goal, while Hurley ripped a shot to Hackett for the second goal, putting the Eagles up by two, 5-3. Stonehill was able to squeeze in one final goal of the game at 10:45 in the second frame, as Meade sent the dish to the cage for his first goal of the season.

Stonehill outshot Post for the third-straight period, 23-8 in the third frame, but was unable to find a slot for an equalizer.

The Skyhawks travels to Manchester, New Hampshire to face Saint Anselm College on Tuesday, January 30 at Sullivan Arena with a 7:00 p.m. opening faceoff.
