Skyhawks total season-high 62 shots

Tedesco recorded his fifth assist of the season

FOXBORO, Mass. (January 26, 2018) – Stonehill College ice hockey's Ryan Smith (Arlington, Massachusetts/Tilton School) sent the Skyhawks into its second overtime game of the season with a tally in the third period against Post University, as neither team was able to score in extra time for a 2-2 draw Friday night at Foxboro Sports Center.

Stonehill (5-11-2) saw Conor Cassidy (Wilmington, Delaware/Canterbury and Kents Hill) record the first goal of the game, while Smith chipped in the equalizer in the third period. Connor Tedesco (Winchester, Massachusetts/Proctor Academy), Cameron Wright (West Dummerston, Vermont/Springfield Pics – USPHL Premier), and Christopher Page (Winthrop, Massachusetts/Winthrop) each registered assists in the night. Junior goaltender Billy Palmer (Cranston, Rhode Island/Boston Bandits – EHL Premier) recorded 25 saves in the battle.

Post (1-14-2) saw Tyler Hackett and Noah Wild knock in the tallies, while Brian Hurley, Lucas Smith, Christopher Harris, and Nolan Arbuckle each chipped in helpers. The Eagles' freshman goaltender Brian Brown stopped a season-high 60 shots in the tie.

As neither team was able to get a tally on the board, Stonehill outshot Post 19-7 and both teams went 0-1 in power plays at the end of the first period.

The Skyhawks attacked early in the second frame, with a 1-0 lead at 2:19, 23 seconds before the Eagles' penalty was up. Cassidy notched his first power play goal of the season, and seventh tally of the season, with help from Tedesco, as he chipped in his fifth assist of the year. Stonehill was able to hold a 7-2 shot advantage after their goal, but the lead was short lived, as Hackett capitalized on a power play at 5:00. Smith ripped two shots on net, prior to him finding Hackett, as Hurley also assisted in the play for the equalizer. The Skyhawks drew another penalty in the period, as the Eagle's Jake Raleigh was sent to the box for five minutes. Stonehill was unable to get the puck past Brown, but the Skyhawks tallied nine shots in the attempt.

Cassidy netted his first power play goal of the season, second of his career

Post came alive in the third period and was able to control the puck for the first six minutes with nine shots to the Skyhawks' two. Post tallied their second power play goal of the game, at 6:15, as Stonehill was a man down for five minutes. Wild put the Eagles up 2-1, with helpers from Harris and Arbuckle. Seven minutes later, Stonehill's Smith found the back of the cage for the Skyhawks' equalizer at 13:01, 2-2. Wright and Page each recorded their eighth and third assists, respectively. Neither team was able to slot the game-winner in the remaining minutes, as both teams headed into overtime.

Overtime saw no penalties, but Post was able to outshoot Stonehill 4-2 as both teams skated to their second overtime game of their seasons.

The Skyhawks host Post University tomorrow, Saturday, January 27 at 5:10 p.m. at the Foxboro Sports Center.
