Northeast 10 Ice Hockey Awards Announcement

Cassidy ranks third on the team in points scoring (17)

EASTON, Mass. (February 17, 2017) – Stonehill College men's ice hockey freshman Conor Cassidy (Wilmington, Del./Canterbury and Kents Hill) has been named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Rookie Team, the league office announced Friday.

This will be Cassidy's third NE10 honor has he was also selected as NE10 Rookie of the Week twice this season.

Cassidy currently ranks tied for second in the conference in goal scoring (12) and freshman scoring, and tied for 17th in point scoring tallying (17).

The freshman is currently third on the team in points, as he is tied with classmate Jack Hall (Shelburne, Vt./Proctor Academy). He tallied his first and only power play goal against Assumption College, where his tally gave the Skyhawks a 3-1 victory. The forward also holds a plus-nine while skating this season, ranking third on the team as well.

Cassidy recorded his first-collegiate goal against Lebanon Valley College, giving the Skyhawks an early 2-0 lead, where they would take the win, 3-2, in the opening contest of the season.

He later saw his first two-point game (1G, 1A) in a 3-2 loss against Assumption College on December 3.

The Wilmington, Delaware native registered his first-collegiate three-point game in a 6-4 loss against Saint Michael's College, where he scored one goal and two assists and giving Stonehill an early 1-0 lead.

Cassidy was named NE10 Rookie of the Week on January 9 when he recorded his seventh goal in the 3-1 conference victory over Assumption College. The win tied the series against the Greyhounds. The freshman capitalized on a power play opportunity after crashing the cage from the right circle off a pass from Brian Higgins (Milton, Mass./Proctor Academy) at 8:53 in the second period.

The Wilmington, Delaware native also kicked off the Skyhawks scoring against UMass Dartmouth with a tally at 14:36 in the first period with a helper from Hall to even the game at one.

Previously, Cassidy earned Rookie of the Week on January 23, as he recorded the Skyhawk's first goal in the opening round of the Boston Landing Collegiate Invitational against Nichols College with a goal at 1:01 in the first period. The goal was assisted by Michael Seibold (Reading, Mass./Tilton School), as Cassidy recorded his fourth of the season.
In the second round of the invitational, Cassidy once again found the back of the cage, at 4:24 in the first period, jumpstarting the Skyhawks scoring. Stonehill went on to defeat Becker College 4-3, as Cassidy tallied his fifth goal of the season with assists from classmates Hall and Cameron Wright (West Dummerston, Vt./Springfield Pics-USPHL Premier).

Third-seeded Stonehill battles second-seeded Saint Michael's College in the NE10 semifinal game on Saturday, February 18 with a puck drop at 4 p.m. in Burlington, Vt. at Cairns Arena.
