Jacques leads the team with 10 goals and 13 points

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (January 17, 2017) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team earned its second-straight win with a 3-1 victory over Assumption College Tuesday night to even out the series with the Greyhounds, 1-1, at Foxboro Sports Center.

Frament tallies his second goal of the season

For Stonehill, (6-10-3, 3-3-0 NE10) Zachary Frament (Concord, N.H./Tilton School), Evan Jacques (Norton, Mass./South Shore Kings-EJHL) and Conor Cassidy (Wilmington, Del./Canterbury and Kents Hill) recorded the goals for the Skyhawks. Billy Palmer (Cranston, R.I./Boston Bandits-EHL Premier) notched 31 saves in the win.

Assumption (7-11-1, 3-4-0 NE10) saw Brendan Philippon tally the lone goal for the Greyhounds. Goaltender Nick Commesso registered 26 saves in the loss.

Assumption outshot Stonehill in two of the three periods, but the Skyhawks defense and special teams was key to keeping a two-goal advantage to top the Greyhounds.

Frament opened up the game early with his second goal of the season after Tommy Newton (Hollis, N.H./Portland Jr. Pirates-USPHL Premier) won the faceoff in the Skyhawks' offensive zone finding the back of the cage at 4:40 into the first period. Stonehill was shorthanded for the second time in the game as Jacques was able to block a pass in the Skyhawks' defensive zone and breakaway scoring an unassisted goal, his 10th of the season for a 2-0 lead at 16:19.

Stonehill was able to capitalize on a power play opportunity as Conor Cassidy crashed the cage shooting from the left circle collecting his seventh goal of the season off a pass from Brian Higgins (Mlton, Mass./Proctor Academy). Both teams had two power play opportunities in the second half, as only the Skyhawks were able to connect at 8:53, for a three-goal advantage.

Assumption acted early in the third period as Philippon connected on passes from Cam Laughlin and Nick Fenuccio for his second tally of the season at 2:28. The third frame also only saw one power play opportunity for the Greyhounds, where the Skyhawks were able to kill it knocking it out of their defensive zone and holding a 3-1 lead.

Stonehill faces non-conference rival UMass Dartmouth in a home matchup at the Foxboro Sports Center with a opening faceoff at 7:00 p.m.
