Ice Hockey Earns Overtime Victory Against Franklin Pierce, 3-2

WINCHENDON, Mass. (January 14, 2017) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team defeated Northeast-10 Conference foe Franklin Pierce University, 3-2, Saturday night in the Skyhawks' fourth overtime contest of the season. 

Stonehill (5-10-3, 2-3-0 NE10) saw three different goal scorers including Jack Scannell (Medfield, Mass./Proctor Academy)Connor Jewett (Berlin, N.H./NH Junior Monarchs-EHL Premier) and Cameron Wright (West Dummerston, Vt./Springfield Pics-USPHL Premier).

For Franklin Pierce (7-10-1, 2-5-0 NE10), Cameron Shepardson and James Morrrissey picked up the tallies.

The first period remained quiet until the Ravens found the back of the net, as Shepardson sent a slapshot from the right circle to the upper right 90 off passes from Jonathan Haun and Morrissey at 18:39.

Scannell picked up his second goal of the season, as he tied up the game, 1-1, off a hustle play down the ice by Ryan Smith (Arlington, Mass./Tilton School) who corralled the puck behind the net. Smith dished it off to Scannell who sent the one-timer to the back of the cage at 3:55 in the second period. 

Early in the third period, the Ravens took the lead once again as Morrissey took a wrist shot from the right circle in a man-advantage opportunity 48 seconds in the frame. The Skyhawks responded 16 minutes later with as Jewett tracked down a rebound connecting for his second goal of season at 16:54.

Heading into overtime, Stonehill held a shot advantage of 31-19 against the Ravens before Wright snapped a shot from the left circle, which flew past Franklin Pierce's goaltender for the game winner 1:07 into overtime. 

Stonehill hosts NE10 rival Assumption College for its first conference contest of the new year on Tuesday, January 17 with a 7:00 p.m. start time at Foxboro Sports Center.
