Ice Hockey Skates to 4-4 Draw Against Wentworth

Skyhawks and Leopards fight to 4-4 draw

BOSTON, Mass. (January 10, 2017) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team skated to its third draw of the season with a 4-4 game against Wentworth Institute of Technology Tuesday night at the Allied Veterans Memorial Rink.

Jacques scored his ninth goal of the season and 12th of his career

Stonehill (4-9-3) saw Evan Jacques (Norton, Mass./South Shore Kings-EJHL), Conor Cassidy (Wilmington, Del./Canterbury and Kents Hill), Cameron Wright (West Dummerston, Vt./Springfield Pics-USPHL Premier), and Brian Higgins (Milton, Mass./Proctor Academy) put the Skyhawks on the board throughout the night. Goaltender Billy Palmer (Cranston, R.I./Boston Bandits-EHL Premier) recorded 38 saves.

Wentworth (2-10-1) saw Jake McDonough record two goals, as Jake Flynn and Sean Brennan tally the other two. Goaltender Ryan Hubbard notched 26 saves in the tie.

With a scoreless opening period, the Skyhawks jumped on board first in the second period as Austin Goldstein (Parkland, Fla./Hebron Academy) and Connor Tedesco (Winchester, Mass./Proctor Academy) dished the puck up the left side finding Jacques in front of the net for a one timer at 6:21. After a faceoff at center ice, the teams fought for control of the puck. Stonehill took the dish around the back of its net to keep it away from Wentworth, but McDonough was able to cut off a pass on the right of the net crashing the cage to knot up the contest, 1-1, at 7:04.

With a faceoff in Stonehill's offensive zone, the Skyhawks were unable to keep the puck once again as the Leopards cut off a pass and dished it off to Jake Flynn and Adam Lane. The puck flew from left to right as Flynn found the back of the cage for the edge, 2-1, at 11:36.

With a scuffle in Wentworth's offensive zone, Stonehill was able to pull out of the corner with the puck as Jack Hall (Shelburne, Vt./Proctor Academy) raced down to the Skyhawks' offensive zone to pass it across to Cassidy to tie up the game at two at 1:16 in the third.

Wentworth scored about seven minutes later at 8:07 in the third with an extra attacker on the ice as Connor Beaudet put the Leopards back on top, 3-2. After a shot by Tedesco was blocked, Christopher Page (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop) collected the rebound finding Wright open in front of the net to tie the game up once again, 3-3, at 12:33. Wentworth would win the following faceoff, but a loose puck gave Stonehill the opportunity to capitalize on a breakaway as Ryan Meade (Tewksbury, Mass./Tilton School) skated past the Leopards' defender passing the puck to an open Higgins for a 4-3 lead in favor of the Skyhawks.

Wentworth closed the frame with a power play goal scored by Brennan from McDonough at 14:18, tying the game for the fourth time. Both teams skated in overtime not being able to net any goals.

Stonehill continues a five-game streak away from home facing No. 13/14 Endicott on Friday, January 13 for a 4:00 p.m. start time.
