Ice Hockey Drops Conference Battle to Saint Anselm, 7-2

MANCHESTER, N.H. (November 16, 2016) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team fell to Northeast-10 Conference foe Saint Anselm College, 7-2, in Sullivan Arena Wednesday night.

For Stonehill, (3-2-1, 1-1-0 NE-10) Evan Jacques (Norton, Mass./South Shore Kings-EJHL) and Tommy Newton (Hollis, N.H./Portland Jr. Pirates-USPHL Premier) recorded the goals, as Connor Tedesco (Winchester, Mass./Proctor Academy), Ryan Meade (Tewksbury, Mass./Tilton School) and Connor Collier (Madison, N.J./New Jersey Hitmen-USPHL) tallied the assists. Billy Palmer (Cranston, R.I./Boston Bandits-EHL Premier) saved 34 shots in the game for the Skyhawks.

Saint Anselm (3-3-0, 2-0-0 NE-10) saw Jeremy Carignan and Vin D'Amato register two goals each, as Lawrence Taylor IV, Trey Aiello and Peter Sikalis picked up one a piece. Shane Joyce stopped 25 shots in the game for the Hawks.

Neither team was able to find the back of the cage, as possession went back and forth between teams but Saint Anselm held a 13-4 shot advantage at the end of the first period.

The Hawks came out firing in the second period as Palmer saved three of the seven shots made by Saint Anselm, but Stonehill was able to connect at 3:46 as Tedesco found Jacques, who tallied his fifth goal of the season. Saint Anselm responded about three minutes later, as Aiello got the first shot, which was saved by Palmer, and then Aiello collected his rebound and got the score, knotting up the game at one.

About a minute later, Jon Pallotta slapped the dish as Palmer picked up another save, as Pallotta recovered the rebound and found Carignan open for a power play goal. The Hawks continued pressing as D'Amato tallied their second power play goal of the game another minute later at 8:29 in the second period and Taylor IV found the back of the cage at 9:12, extending Saint Anselm's lead to three, 4-1.

Stonehill kicked off the third period with its second goal of the game as Newton won the faceoff and then tallied his first goal of the season, ninth of his career, at 5:48. Both teams continued fighting for possession, as Saint Anselm held an 11-9 shot advantage in the final period. Carignan recorded his second of the game, and fifth for the Hawks, after Palmer saved a shot by Pallotta at 11:36. D'Amato and Sikalis chipped in two more power play goals for the Hawks making them 4-for-10 in power plays, as Stonehill went 0-for-4.

Stonehill comes back home to Foxboro Sports Center to take on Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, November 19 for a 6:10 p.m. puck drop.
