Senior Robbie Dorgan recorded a five point game to hit the 100th point of his career in tonight's win.

Skyhawks to play in the NE-10 Championship for the fourth time in program history

EASTON, Mass. (February 20, 2016) – The Stonehill College ice hockey team used six different goal scorers and senior forward Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, New York/Boston Bulldogs) registered his 100th point of his career, as the Skyhawks skated to an 8-4 victory over Assumption College in tonight's Northeast-10 Conference men's ice hockey semifinal action at the Foxboro Sports Center.

Stonehill advances to its fourth NE-10 championship game in program history and first since 2012. The Skyhawks will face second-seeded Saint Anselm College on Saturday, February 27th at the Foxboro Sports Center at 7:30 p.m. The Greyhounds season comes to a close at 9-12-4 overall and 2-7-1 in the NE-10.

Assumption jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just under three minutes into the first period when sophomore forward Brian Farrell (Island Park, New York/South Kent School) received a pass from the NE-10's leader in assists, junior Ryan Gomez (Wayne, New Jersey/Wayne Valley) and fired a shot over freshman netminder William Palmer's (Cranston, Rhode Island/Boston Bandits) blocker to give the visitors a one goal advantage.

Stonehill would strike back using two power play goals late in the first period to take the lead, one they would not relinquish for the rest of the game. Dorgan struck at the 13:36 mark of the first period, tallying his sixth goal of the season on assists by seniors Richard Harris (Grand Island, New York/Valley Jr. Warriors) and Garrett White (Wakefield, Massachusetts/Boston Bulldogs). Dorgan would return the favor, finding Harris on the power play at the 15:09 mark for Harris' eighth goal of the season.

After a scoreless opening five minutes to the second period, senior Tom Jenkins (Canton, Massachusetts/Williston Northampton) pushed the Stonehill lead to two goals with an absolute rocket from the top of the face-off circle. Newly minted NE-10 player of the Year, senior Brandon Bete (Greenfield, Massachusetts/Northfield Mount Hermon) responded before the crowd could catch their breath from the Jenkins goals, scoring just 15 seconds later when he picked off a pass in the Skyhawk defensive zone and buried his 25th goal of the year. Jenkins hit another laser, doubling his goal tally and Stonehill's lead, before sophomore Tommy Newton (Hollis, N.H. / Portland Jr. Pirates) received a pass from junior Brian Higgins (Milton, Massachusetts/Proctor Academy) and senior Willy Baker (Suffern, New York/The Hill School) and netted his sixth goal of the year. The Greyhounds would get one back before the end of the second period to go into the intermission with the score 5-3.

Stonehill had an excellent showing on the power play finishing the game 3-5, with the third and final goal being the biggest. Dorgan hit the huge milestone at the 3:57 mark of the third period, scoring his 100th point of his career on beautiful puck movement by Harris and Classmate Brian Furey (Quincy, Massachusetts/BC High). Fellow senior Scott Rolph (Bow, New Hampshire/Tilton School) got in on the scoring action and sophomore Connor Tedesco (Winchester, Massachusetts/Proctor Academy) potted his third goal of the season on a short hander and empty net when Assumption pulled its goalie looking to take advantage of a six on four.

Freshman standout William Palmer turned away 23 shots on 27 opportunities while his counterpart, junior Nick Comesso (Marshfield, Massachusetts/The Governor's Academy) played 35:52 before being replaced by freshman Brian Nazzaro (Braintree, Massachusetts/New Hampton) after giving up five goals. Nazzaro was solid, giving up two goals on 12 shots.

Stonehill held a 35-27 edge in shots, putting 13 on net in in the second, while the Skyhawks were also able to convert on three of their five power play opportunities.

Stonehill (13-9-4, 8-1-2 NE-10) will be back in action on Saturday night, when Saint Anselm College (12-11-3, 3-0-2 NE-10) visits the Foxboro Sports Center for the NE-10 Championship. Opening face-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
