Palmer Collects Fifth NE-10 Rookie of the Week Honor

Cranston, R.I. native earns third straight NE-10 weekly award

 

EASTON, Mass. (February 15, 2016) – Stonehill College freshman goaltender William Palmer (Cranston, Rhode Island/Boston Bandits) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week, it was announced today by the league office.

In one start on the week, Palmer turned away 28 shots, including 13 in the first period, to help keep the Skyhawks within striking distance in an eventual 1-0 loss at Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday. It's the fifth time this season and third straight time he has been honored as the conference's top newcomer. Palmer has also earned Goaltender of the Week honors twice during his freshman campaign.

Palmer ranks near or at the top of every major statistical category for goaltenders in the NE-10. He is second in goals against average (GAA) at 2.74, second in save percentage (.922) and first in winning percentage. The freshman has compiled at least 30 saves in nine separate games this season and 40 saves or more in four contests. Palmer's career-high in saves is 50 which he set against Assumption College (1/23/16) in a 5-2 triumph.

Top-seeded Stonehill (12-9-4, 7-1-2 NE-10) will participate in its fourth straight NE-10 semifinal game on Saturday, February 20th against fourth-seeded Assumption College (8-11-4, 2-6-1 NE-10) at the Foxboro Sports Center. Opening face-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
