Palmer Collects Second NE-10 Rookie of The Week Honor

Cranston, R.I. native recorded 35 saves in Stonehill's 4-2 win at Becker College last Tuesday night

EASTON, Mass. (January 19, 2016) – Stonehill College freshman William Palmer (Cranston, Rhode Island/Boston Bandits - EHL) has been recognized as the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Rookie of the Week for ice hockey, the league office announced yesterday.

Palmer, who was recognized by the NE-10 with the first Rookie of the Week honor of his career on November 3rd, led Stonehill to a 4-2 victory at Becker College last Tuesday night, registering a .946 save percentage.

The freshman netminder opened his week by making 35 saves, including 13 in the third period, in Stonehill's win against Becker at the New England Sports Center on Tuesday. After giving up a goal early in the first period, Palmer was solid for the remainder of the contest, allowing another tally at the 18:11 mark of the third but shutting out the Hawks the rest of the way to help secure Stonehill's victory. Palmer spearheaded a back-line that held the Hawks to an 0-for-6 showing on the power play. He turned away 10 shots in the in the first period, 12 more in the second, and 13 in the third period.

Palmer is a 2015 graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School, where he played ice hockey and golf. In his junior year, he was named Cox Sports Athlete of the Year and Warwick Beacon Athlete of the Year. The Cranston Rhode Island native was the top student-athlete of his class and was awarded the Duquesne University Book Award as well as being named first team All-State for ice hockey. He skated for the Boston Advantage and the Boston Bandits for his club hockey teams.

Stonehill (5-8-3, 2-0-1 NE-10) is back in action tonight, as the Skyhawks travel to Framingham State University with the opening faceoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
