Ice Hockey Bounces Back With 4-2 Win Over Becker

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. (January 12, 2016) – Stonehill College scored three first period goals to earn a 4-2 comeback victory over Becker College this evening in non-conference men's ice hockey action at the New England Sports Center.

Stonehill junior forward Evan Jacques (Norton, Massachusetts/South Shore Kings (EJHL) powered the offense with two points on two goals, while classmates Richard Harris (Grand Island, New York/Valley Jr. Warriors (EJHL) and Dan Graham (Billerica, Massachusetts/Williston Northampton) also found the back of the net for the Skyhawks.

Seniors Kevin Airoldi (Kennebunk, Maine/Boston Jr. Rangers (AJHL), Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, New York/Boston Bulldogs (AJHL), Anthony D'Elia (Stamford, Connecticut/Gunnery School), Garrett White (Wakefield, Massachusetts/Boston Bulldogs (AJHL), Thomas DePoalo (Mendham, New Jersey/Morristown Beard School) and freshman Connor Collier (Madison, New Jersey/New Jersey Hitmen (USPHL)   chipped in with an assist each.

Making his tenth start of the season in net, freshman goaltender William Palmer (Cranston, Rhode Island/Boston Bandits (EHL) improved to 4-4-2 after stopping 35 shots, including 13 in the third period.

Junior forward Conner Allison (Hillsboro, Oregon/Philadelphia Junior Flyers) provided Becker's offense with both goals, while classmate Nicholas Mckee (Bakersfield, California/Fresno Monsters) was credited with the Hawks lone assist

Becker freshman netminder Bryan Canter (Sparrows Point, Maryland/Kalkaska Rhinos) made a nine saves but let up three goals in the first period before being replaced by junior Tyler Stepke (Mars, Pennsylvania/Three Rivers Vengeance). Stepke went on to make 20 saves over the final 40 minutes of action while only allowing one goal.

The Hawks opened the scoring just 1:46 into the contest, as Allison one timed a pass from McKee to give him his team leading seventh goal of the season. Stonehill responded at the 4:07 mark when Jacques found the back of the net for his first goal of the night with assists by D'Elia and Airoldi. The Skyhawks added two more goals to the score-sheet just 90 second apart late in the first period. First, Harris scored his third goal of the season, than Graham capitalized on a two-on-one with DePoalo to push the lead to 3-1 to end the first period.

The two sides battled to a scoreless second before the Hawks cut the deficit to one early in the third stanza. Allison netted his second goal of the game at the 1:49 mark of the third period, collecting a loose puck in the Skyhawks defensive zone and burying a wrist shot inside the left post.

Stonehill regained the two goal advantage when Jacques redirected a shot from the point to give him his first multi-point game and first multi-goal effort of the season.

Following tonight's contest, Stonehill (5-7-3, 2-0-1 NE-10) will hit the road this Saturday for a matchup with SUNY Canton at 7:00 p.m. Becker (5-10, 1-5 ECAC Northeast) will also hit the road to take on the Wentworth Institute of Technology in ECAC NE action on Saturday night.
