FOXBORO, Mass. (January 7, 2015) – The Connecticut College ice hockey team used three second period goals to earn a 6-2 victory this evening in non-conference men's ice hockey action at the Foxboro Sports Center.

Connecticut was led by freshman forward Matt Michaud (South Portland, Maine/Kimball Union Academy), and junior forward Joe Giordano (Ellington, Connecticut/ Bismarck Bobcats). Giordano potted his first hat trick of the season while Michaud netted two goals in the third period.

After falling behind 3-0 heading into the third period, Stonehill senior forward Thomas DePoalo (Mendham, New Jersey/Morristown Beard School) finally got the Skyhawks on the board with the help of fellow classmates Richard Harris (Grand Island, New York/Valley Jr. Warriors (EJHL) and Dan Graham (Billerica, Massachusetts/Williston Northampton).

Michaud responded with back-to-back goals three minutes apart to stake the visitors to a commanding 5-1 lead midway through the third period. Junior Brian Higgins (Milton, Massachusetts/Proctor Academy) answered with a goal of his own just 40 seconds after at the 11:00 minute mark, slotting the puck past senior netminder Tom Conlin (Norwood, Massachusetts/Walpole Express) to add on to his team leading fifth goal of the year. Giordano scored his third goal of the contest at the 11:28 mark as the two teams exchanged goals just seconds apart from one another.

Conlin earned the win in net for Connecticut College, as he stopped 15 of the 17 shots that he saw. Stonehill senior netminder Patrick Farrington (Sandwich, Massachusetts/Bridgton Academy) was handed the loss after making 28 saves out of 34 shots, dropping his record to  1-2-1 on the year.

Stonehill (4-6-3, 2-0-1 Northeast-10) will be back in action Saturday with a 7 p.m. contest at Salve Regina University. The Skyhawks return home to the Foxboro Sports Center on Thursday, January 21st against NE-10 rival Southern New Hampshire University. Connecticut (2-8-2, 0-4-2 NESCAC) returns to the ice Saturday, when the Camels host Manhattanville College.
