FOXBORO, Mass. (December 9, 2015) – The Stonehill College ice hockey team fell behind 2-0 in the first period on its way to an eventual 5-1 setback to Worcester State University this evening in non-conference action at the Foxboro Sports Center.

Freshman forward Mike Moran (Milford, Massachusetts/Boston Jr. Bruins - USPHL) got Worcester State off to a quick start at the 6:28 mark of the first period when he wristed a shot past senior goaltender Matt Pallela's (Chicago, Illinois/Loyola Academy) glove side for his third goal of the season. The Lancers doubled its lead about four minutes later when classmate Kyle Baker (Fresno, California/Fresno Monsters - WSHL) received a pass from Andrew Etheridge (Burrillvilee, Rhode Island/Boston Jr. Rangers - EHL) and Alex Taddeo (Franklin, Massachusetts/Boston Jr. Rangers - EHL) and slipped the puck past Pallela to give the visitors a 2-0 lead which they would maintain for the remainder of the first period.

Worcester State scored once more 6:35 into the second period on a goal from freshman Andrew Etheridge (Burrillvilee, Rhode Island/Boston Jr. Rangers - EHL). Down 3-0 in the third period, Stonehill pushed forward looking to try and get back into the game, exposing its backline. The Lancers netted two more goals less than two minutes apart from each other in the third period, ending any chance at a comeback.

Senior Richard Harris (Grand Island, New York/Valley Jr. Warriors - EJHL) put Stonehill on the board with 25 seconds left in the game. Harris collected a pass from classmates Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, New York/ Boston Bulldogs - AJHL) and Anthony D'Elia (Stamford, Connecticut/Gunnery School) and scored just outside of the crease, breaking Worcester States sophomore netminder Tyler Fallicas (Coram, New York/Ogden Mustangs - WSHL) chance at a shutout.

Following this evening's contest, Stonehill (4-5-3, 2-0-1 NE-10) will be off a month for winter break before returning home to the Foxboro Center on January 7th to take on Connecticut College at 7 p.m. Worcester State (3-8-1, 0-5-1 MASCAC) is back in action on January 9th when they travel to UMass-Dartmouth for a game at 4 p.m.
