Ice Hockey Comes Up Short At Endicott, 5-2

Senior captain Travis Army scored in the first period of today's game

Anthony D'Elia records two assists in setback

BEVERLY, Mass. (December 5, 2015) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team fell to Endicott College, 5-2, in non-conference action this evening at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.

Senior forward Anthony D'Elia (Stamford, Connecticut/Gunnery School) added to his team-leading assist total with two helpers to give him seven this season, senior captain Travis Army (Englewood, Colorado/Worcester Academy) scored his second goal of the season and classmate Willy Baker (Suffern, New York/The Hill School) also netted his second goal to lead Stonehill.

Endicott was led by freshman Alex Marcinek (Byron Center, Michigan/Michigan Warriors - NAHL), who tallied two points on a goal and an assist for the Gulls. Freshman forwards Cam Beck (Lake Forest, Illinois/Rio Grande Killer Bees - NAHL) and Colin Powell (Easton, Connecticut/St. Joseph) also registered two points each to help Endicott earn the victory.

Endicott freshman netminder Kevin Aldridge (Beverly Hills, Michigan/Fairbanks Ice Dogs - NAHL) collected his sixth win of the season by stopping 29 of the 31 shots he saw, including 15 in the first period. His counterpart, Stonehill freshman goaltender William Palmer (Cranston, Rhode Island/Boston Bandits - EHL) was hit with the loss, although he made 34 saves in the contest.

Endicott got on the board first at the 2:18 mark of the opening period, as freshman forward Shamus Maloney (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/South Shore Kings - USPHL Premier) beat Palmer with the help of assists from classmates Dominic Nitti (Cottage Grove, Minnesota/Springfield Pics - USPHL Premier) and Ryan Dougherty (Sterling Heights, Michigan/Michigan Warriors - NAHL). The Gulls would double their lead just over four minutes later when Carter Horwitz (Tustin, California/Bay State Breakers - USPHL Premier) one-timed a feed from Marcinek on a 2-on-1 shorthanded break for his second marker of the season.

Stonehill pulled within one at the 8:22 mark in the first period when Army received a pass from D'Elia and slotted the puck past Aldridge to make the score 2-1. It was as close as the Skyhawks would come in the contest.

After Army's goal, Stonehill was poised to knot the game up at two goals apiece when they found themselves on a 5-3 power play, but Endicott was able to fend off the Skyhawks without any damage. With under four minutes remaining in the second period Marcinek sniped home the game winner for the Gulls and they would go on to add two more in the third period.

Baker got on the score sheet for Stonehill at the 17:46 mark of the third period on D'Elia's second assist of the contest. It was Baker's second goal of the season and his tenth goal in his career.

Stonehill (4-4-3, 2-0-1 NE-10) will be off until Wednesday evening, when the Skyhawks return home to take on Worcester State University at 5:40 p.m. Endicott (6-2-2, 4-1-1 ECAC Northeast) hosts Salem State University on Saturday, December 12 at 3 p.m.
