Ice Hockey Doubles Up Wentworth, 4-2

Three goal second period lifts Skyhawks to bounce back win

FOXBORO, Mass. (December 1, 2015) – Stonehill College scored four goals over the final two periods of play to earn a 4-2 comeback victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology tonight in non-conference men's ice hockey action at the Foxboro Sports Center.

Stonehill senior forward Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, New York/Boston Bulldogs) and classmate Anthony D'Elia (Stamford, Connecticut/Gunnery School) powered the offense with two points each on a goal and an assist, while sophomore Connor Tedesco (Winchester, Massachusetts/Proctor Academy) and senior Richard Harris (Grand Island, New York/Valley Jr. Warriors) also found the back of the net for the Skyhawks.

Seniors Dan Graham (Billerica, Massachusetts/Williston Northampton), Garrett White (Wakefield, Massachusetts/Boston Bulldogs), and Willy Baker (Suffern, New York/The Hill School) chipped in with an assist each.

Making his seventh start of the season in net, freshman goaltender William Palmer (Cranston, Rhode Island/Boston Bandits) improved to 3-2-2 after stopping 17 shots, including eight in the third period.

Junior defensemen Jake Flynn (Lino Lakes, Minnesota/Austin) and Kyle Lebrun (Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Norwich University) provided Wentworth's offense with one goal apiece, while sophomores Jake McDonough (Marshfield, Massachusetts/Dexter School), Cam McLennan (Calgary, Atlanta/Grand Forks) and freshmen Angus Johnston (Calgary, Atlanta/Woodstock) and Paul Filippone (Cranston, Rhode Island/Boston) were credited with assists.

Wentworth sophomore netminder Ryan Hubbard (West Roxbury, Massachusetts/Plattsburgh State) made a game-high 36 saves, including a combined 27 over the final 40 minutes of action.

Stonehill opened the first period firing a flurry of shots at Hubbard who was making his first collegiate start, but the Hawks opened the scoring with 1:50 left in the first period, as Flynn netted a shorthanded goal on assists by McDonough and Johnston.

Wentworth would carry their lead into the first intermission despite being outshot 13-3, but Stonehill responded early in the second to even the score. Harris collected a pass from Dorgan and Graham and beat Hubbard at the 5:53 mark for the first of Stonehill's four goals in the game.

The Skyhawks struck again twice more before the end of the period, as Dorgan finished a one-timer from White to give the home team the lead with 10:26 remaining before the second intermission. D'Elia scored an unassisted shorthanded goal to push Stonehill's lead to 3-1, which proved to be the winning goal. Wentworth cut into the Skyhawks lead with less than five minutes to play in the second period when Lebrun beat Palmer to give him his second goal on the year.

Stonehill was able to double up its lead and finish the scoring on the night at the 12:01 mark in the third period after Tedesco potted his second goal of the year with help from Baker and D'Elia.

Following tonight's contest, Stonehill (4-3-3, 2-0-1 NE-10) will hit the road for a game against Endicott College. The Skyhawks and Gulls will face off on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. Wentworth (3-7-1, 2-2-1 ECAC Northeast) will return home to host the #13 ranked Nichols College in ECAC NE action on Saturday afternoon.
