Senior Garrett White posts his second multi-point game of the season for the Skyhawks

HOOKSETT, N.H. (November 14, 2015) – Stonehill College scored two times in the third period to erase a pair of deficits and earn a 2-2 overtime tie with Southern New Hampshire University this evening in Northeast-10 Conference ice hockey action at The Ice Den.

Senior forward Garrett White (Wakefield, Massachusetts/Boston Bulldogs - AJHL) factored into both Stonehill scoring plays with an assist on both goals, while junior forward Brian Higgins (Milton, Massachusetts/Proctor Academy) and senior forward Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, New York/Boston Bulldogs - AJHL) found the back of the net for the Skyhawks.

Starting his first contest of the season in net, senior goaltender Patrick Farrington (Sandwich, Massachusetts/Bridgton Academy) made 29 saves, including 13 in the first period.

Junior forward Jay Sylvia (Acushnet, Massachusetts/South Shore Kings) and sophomore forward Kevin Lorcher (Rouen, France/Valley Junior Warriors) each scored for Southern New Hampshire, while senior forward Jim Gabrione (Boca Raton, Florida/Tampa Bay Juniors) and junior forward Andrew Smith (Moneta, Virginia/Northwood Prep) both recorded an assist.

Penmen sophomore netminder Ryan Slatky (Manchester, New Hampshire/Bridgton Academy) stopped 35 shots in 65 minutes between the pipes, including all 14 that he saw in the second period.

The game remained scoreless through the first two periods of play, as Farrington stopped 16 Southern New Hampshire shot attempts while Slatky registered 25 saves over the course of the first 40 minutes.

With just 20 seconds elapsed in the third period, Sylvia got the Penmen on the board with the help of Lorcher and Gabrione. The Penmen took advantage of a Stonehill penalty that was carried over from the end of the second period. With a man advantage, Gabrione slid a pass to Lorcher who was at the top of the right face-off circle. Lorcher then found a crashing Sylvia who one-timed a shot past Farrington to the near side post to give the host a 1-0 lead.

Stonehill wouldn't take long to respond, evening the game at one goal apiece at the 1:20 mark. White received the puck and cycled it from the left point down to Tommy Newton (Hollis, New Hampshire/Portland Jr. Pirates USPHL- Premier) along the halfwall. Newton collected the puck and sent a sharp backhanded pass to Higgins who was stationed in the slot. Higgins lined up the pass and one timed a laser that beat Slatky low glove side to knot the game up at one.

Southern New Hampshire would regain its lead midway through the third period, however, as Lorcher fired a shot over the glove shoulder of a screened Farrington.

Still trailing 2-1 with 13:52 elapsed in the third period, the Skyhawks pulled even for the second time in the game when Dorgan scored on a Stonehill power play, redirecting a pass from senior forward Thomas DePoalo (Mendham, New Jersey/Morristown Beard School) into the far left post.

Southern New Hampshire had the majority of the scoring opportunities in the overtime period, registering five shots on goal to Stonehill's one. Farrington was up to the challenge, turning away all five to help the Skyhawks leave New Hampshire with a point.

Stonehill (2-1-2, 1-0-1 NE-10) is back in action on Tuesday night at Saint Michael's College at 7 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (1-4-1, 1-0-1 NE-10) will remain home, hosting the University of Rhode Island at 7:30 p.m.
