Palmer Earns NE-10 Weekly Honors

Freshman William Palmer named NE-10 Rookie and Goaltender of the week

EASTON, Mass. (November 3, 2015) –  Freshman goaltender William Palmer (Cranston, Rhode Island/Boston Bandits) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Rookie and Goaltender of the Week for the first time in his career, the league announced earlier today.

In Stonehill's only game last week, Palmer made 43 saves in 44 opportunities as the Skyhawks skated to a 1-1 tie with Endicott College on Saturday evening in their home opener at the Foxboro Sports Center. The freshman gave up a goal late in the first period, but stopped the final 38 shots that came his way over the remainder of the contest, allowing Stonehill to keep the score tied as they pushed forward looking for the game winner. Palmer made nine saves in the opening 20 minutes, 17 in the second period, 13 in the third, and four in the five-minute overtime session.

Palmer is a 2015 graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School, where he played ice hockey and golf. In his junior year, he was named Cox Sports Athlete of the Year and Warwick Beacon Athlete of the Year. The Cranston Rhode Island native was the top student-athlete of his class and was awarded the Duquesne University Book Award as well as being named first team All-State for ice hockey. He skated for the Boston Advantage and the Boston Bandits for his club hockey teams.

Stonehill (0-0-1, 0-0 NE-10) is back in action on Thursday night, as the Skyhawks are set to open their 2015-16 NE-10 slate against Assumption College at the Foxboro Sports Center.
