Senior goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos makes career-high 48 saves for Skyhawks

MANCHESTER, N.H. (February 10, 2015) – Senior goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) made a career-high 48 saves and junior forward Garrett White (Wakefield, Massachusetts/Boston Bulldogs) scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period, but Saint Anselm College equalized late in regulation to earn a 1-1 tie with Stonehill College this evening in Northeast-10 Conference ice hockey action at Sullivan Arena.

After over 40 minutes of scoreless play, Stonehill took a 1-0 lead just 48 seconds into the third period when senior Kevin Aufiero (Canton, Massachusetts/Walpole Express) and junior Thomas DePoalo (Mendham, New Jersey/Morristown Beard School) set up White for his team-leading tenth goal of the season.

Saint Anselm had several opportunities to pull even throughout the period, as the Hawks had a pair of power plays and put 15 shots on goal, but Stonehill held onto its lead until the closing minutes.

With just 1:50 remaining in regulation, Saint Anselm senior forward Sean Jenkins (Boston, Massachusetts/Boston Bulldogs) scored with the help of classmate Kody Grondin (Hampton, New Hampshire/Tabor Academy) and sophomore Brendon Kerrigan (Boston, Massachusetts/Buckingham Browne & Nichols) to force overtime.

The Hawks outshot Stonehill 7-1 in the extra session, but Tasiopoulos turned aside all seven attempts as the Skyhawks extended their unbeaten run in regular season NE-10 play to 19 games (17-0-2).

Tasiopoulos, who was named NE-10 Goaltender of the Week earlier today for the third time this season, made 17 saves in the first period, ten in the second, 14 in the third, and seven in overtime en route to his career-best total of 48. The senior set his previous career high of 46 saves in Stonehill's 5-4 victory over Saint Anselm last February.

On the other end, Hawks freshman netminder Shane Joyce (Pembroke, Massachusetts/PAL Islanders) was also impressive, making 28 saves in 29 opportunities.

Saint Anselm outshot Stonehill 49-29 in the game, including 22-7 over the final 25 minutes of action. Both teams were unable to convert with a man advantage, going 0-for-3 on the power play.

Stonehill (12-5-4, 6-0-2 NE-10) will be back in action on Thursday night at Franklin Pierce University. The Skyhawks then head to Assumption College on Saturday afternoon, before returning to the Foxboro Sports Center on Wednesday February 18th to host Franklin Pierce for Senior Night. Saint Anselm (8-12-3, 2-1-3 NE-10) will remain at home to host the University of Southern Maine on Friday night.
