Skyhawks take season series with Penmen and earn two points in conference standings

MANCHESTER, N.H. (January 25, 2015) – Stonehill College scored two goals in each period en route to a 6-2 victory at Southern New Hampshire University this afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference men's ice hockey action at the Ice Den.

Six different Skyhawks found the back of the net and senior goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) made 29 saves as Stonehill captured the season series with the Penmen for the second straight winter. Stonehill posted a 6-3 victory over Southern New Hampshire at the Foxboro Sports Center on November 18th, and the two teams will wrap up their season series on February 7th in Foxboro.

Junior forward Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, New York/Boston Bulldogs) led the balanced offensive performance with four points on a goal and three assists, while classmate Richard Harris (Grand Island, New York/Valley Jr. Warriors) totaled three points on a goal and a pair of assists. Juniors Anthony D'Elia (Stamford, Connecticut/Gunnery School) and Thomas DePoalo (Mendham, New Jersey/Morristown Beard School) also posted multi-point efforts with a goal and an assist, and classmates Garrett White (Wakefield, Massachusetts/Boston Bulldogs) and Travis Army (Englewood, Colorado/Worcester Academy) chipped in with one goal each.

Senior defenseman Brendan Greene (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Boston Advantage) was credited with two assists, while juniors Connor Fallon (Weymouth, Massachusetts/South Shore Kings) and Dan Graham (Billerica, Massachusetts/Williston Northampton) tallied one each.

Despite giving up six goals, Southern New Hampshire freshman netminder Matthew MacInnis (Arlington, Texas/Wilkes-Barre Scranton Knights) made a game-high 42 saves, including 19 in the first period.

Seniors Casey Goll (Winthrop, Massachusetts/New Hampton School) and Bryan Wright (Reading, Massachusetts/N.H. Junior Monarchs) each scored power play goals for the Penmen, while junior Joe Collins (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Saint Michael's) helped set up both with a pair of assists.

Goll opened the scoring 5:03 into the game after a pair of Stonehill penalties gave the Penmen a 5-on-3 advantage. D'Elia tied the score just over two minutes later on his sixth goal of the season, and White found the back of the net at the 16:58 mark of the first to give the Skyhawks a 2-1 edge heading into the first intermission. Stonehill outshot Southern New Hampshire 21-8 in the opening 20 minutes, but the Skyhawks were whistled for three penalties.

Stonehill would take a 4-1 lead in the game with a pair of goals midway through the second period. Dorgan and Greene set up DePoalo for his third goal of the season at the 9:20 mark, and Harris struck just eight seconds later to give the Skyhawks a commanding three-goal lead. Wright brought the home team back to within striking distance with a goal 12:07 into the second, but that would be all the offense the Penmen would produce the rest of the way.

Dorgan picked up his third point of the night on a power play goal at the 8:08 mark of the third period to extend Stonehill's lead to three, and Army capped the scoring late in the period with his second goal of the season.

Stonehill (9-4-3, 4-0-1 NE-10), which was playing in its first NE-10 game since December 2nd, will begin a stretch of three consecutive non-conference contests on Tuesday night, when the Skyhawks are set to host Oswego State University at the Foxboro Sports Center. Southern New Hampshire (8-9-1, 2-5-0 NE-10) is back in action next Saturday night at Assumption College.
