Duo helped lead Stonehill to a 2-1 record in three games last week

EASTON, Mass. (January 20, 2015) – Stonehill College senior netminder Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) and junior forward Kevin Airoldi (Kennebunk, Maine/Boston Jr. Rangers) have been named Goaltender and Player of the Week, respectively, by the Northeast-10 Conference.

Tasiopoulos and Airoldi helped lead Stonehill to a 2-1 record in three non-conference games last week, including a 4-2 home win over Becker on Wednesday night and a weekend split at SUNY Canton.

Tasiopoulos earns Goaltender of the Week honors from the league office for the second time this season and the eighth time in his career. The reigning NE-10 Goaltender of the Year went 2-0 in his two starts last week, posting a 1.00 goals against average and a .966 save percentage while stopping 56 of the 58 shots that came his way.

The senior netminder opened his week by making 23 saves, including 13 in the third period, in Stonehill's win against Becker at the Foxboro Sports Center on Wednesday. After giving up a goal early in the first period, Tasiopoulos was solid for the remainder of the contest, allowing a power play tally at the 7:24 mark of the third but making nine saves the rest of the way to help secure Stonehill's victory.

He followed that effort up by turning in a 33-save shutout, his first of the season and program record seventh of his career, on Sunday afternoon as the Skyhawks defeated SUNY Canton, 5-0. Tasiopoulos, who registered a single season program record five shutouts in 2013-14, made 13 third period saves in his second straight start to improve to 7-2-2 (.727) this season, the best winning percentage in the NE-10. He also leads the conference in goals against average (2.15) while ranking second in save percentage (.927).

Senior Chris Tasiopoulos went 2-0 with a 1.00 goals against average and a .966 save percentage last week.

Airoldi, a junior who is in his second season with the ice hockey program, earns the first NE-10 Player of the Week award of his career after spearheading Stonehill's offensive outburst last week with five points on three goals and two assists.

He recorded a career-best three points in Wednesday's win over Becker, scoring two goals and assisting on another, as Stonehill got back into the win column after having its eight-game unbeaten streak snapped last Saturday at Connecticut College. Airoldi netted the equalizer early in the second period, before assisting on classmate Thomas DePoalo's (Mendham, New Jersey/Morristown Beard School) go-ahead goal 11 minutes into the third and sealing the contest with his second tally of the night with 26 seconds remaining on the clock.

The junior forward added two more points as Stonehill split a pair of games over the weekend at SUNY Canton. He assisted on junior Anthony D'Elia's (Stamford, Connecticut/Gunnery School) second period goal in the Skyhawks' eventual 6-5 loss on Saturday, before tallying his first career short-handed marker in Sunday's 5-0 shutout of the Kangaroos.

Through 14 games this season, Airoldi is tied for second on the team and 12th in the NE-10 with 11 points on five goals and six assists. In 37 career games with Stonehill, he has recorded 17 points on seven goals and 10 assists.

Stonehill (8-4-2, 3-0-1 NE-10) will be back at the Foxboro Sports Center on Wednesday night to host Western New England University, before returning to NE-10 play next Saturday at Southern New Hampshire University.
