Senior goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos posts seventh career shutout with 33-save effort

CANTON, N.Y. (January 18, 2015) – Junior forwards Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, New York/Boston Bulldogs) and Richard Harris (Grand Island, New York/Valley Jr. Warriors) scored two goals each and senior goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) posted a 33-save shutout as Stonehill College skated to a 5-0 victory over SUNY Canton this afternoon in non-conference men's ice hockey action at the Roos House.

The Skyhawks led 1-0 after the second period before exploding for four goals in the third to earn a weekend split with the Kangaroos. SUNY Canton prevailed in a back and forth thriller on Saturday night, scoring the game-winning goal with 30 seconds remaining in regulation en route to a 6-5 win.

Dorgan and Harris also contributed an assist each, while junior Kevin Airoldi (Kennebunk, Maine/Boston Jr. Rangers) found the back of the net with the help of classmate Thomas Jenkins (Canton, Massachusetts/Williston Northampton).

Tasiopoulos, who registered a single season program record five shutouts in 2013-14, collects his first of this season and the seventh of his career, which is also a team record. The reigning Northeast-10 Conference Goaltender of the Year made 13 of his game-high 33 saves in the third period, improving his record to 7-2-2 in the process.

SUNY Canton sophomore netminder Christopher Marsillo (Lincroft, New Jersey/Lake George Fighting Spirit) was solid through the first two periods this afternoon, ceding just one goal and making 20 saves, before allowing three shots to get past him over the final 20 minutes.

After a scoreless first period in which both teams put ten shots on goal, Stonehill got on the scoreboard 16:44 into the second when Harris found Dorgan for his third goal of the season. The Skyhawks would head into the locker room for the second intermission leading 1-0.

Dorgan added his second of the afternoon on a power play at the 4:10 mark of the third period, after SUNY Canton freshman defenseman Trenton Yule (Oswego, New York/Kanata Stallions) received a two-minute tripping penalty. Both teams had eight power play opportunities in the contest, with Stonehill converting on one of its chances and the Kangaroos going 0-for-8.

Leading 2-0 midway through the third, Stonehill sealed the win with two goals just 33 seconds apart. Dorgan recorded his third point of the game on an assist as Harris gave the Skyhawks a commanding three-goal lead with 10:23 elapsed in the period. Airoldi followed with his fifth of the season shortly after, and Harris added an empty-netter with less than four minutes remaining to cap the scoring.

Stonehill (8-4-2, 3-0-1 NE-10) will return to the Foxboro Sports Center on Wednesday night to host Western New England University before getting back into NE-10 play next Saturday at Southern New Hampshire University. SUNY Canton (5-11-1) is off until next Saturday, when the Kangaroos are set to take on SUNY Geneseo.
