Tasiopoulos posted his third shutout of the season last week against Becker College, a new school record.

Norwell, Mass. native set a school record last week with third shutout of the season

EASTON, Mass. (January 20, 2014) – Stonehill College junior goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Goaltender of the Week, it was announced today by the league office. Tasiopoulos has now earned this recognition three times this season and five times in his career.

In his only start of the week, the junior posted a 39-save shutout in Stonehill's 2-0 win at Becker College, helping the Skyhawks snap a three-game losing streak. He turned back 13 shots in the first period, 11 in the second, and a game-high 15 in the third period, improving his record to 5-5-0 in the process. Tasiopoulos' clean sheet was his third of the 2013-14 campaign, setting a new Stonehill school record for shutouts in a season. The 2011-12 NE-10 Rookie of the Year now has four shutouts in his career, after recording one during his freshman season.

The previous record of two shutouts was set by Tyler Jackson, '12, in the 2009-10 campaign and matched by Tasiopoulos earlier this season. With one more shutout, Stonehill will set a team record for overall shutouts in a season, as three is the current team mark.

Tasiopoulos currently ranks second in the NE-10 in both goals against average (2.70) and save percentage (.919), behind only senior Nick Dries of Saint Anselm College.

The junior netminder registered his first shutout of the season on November 13th, stopping all 20 of the shots that he saw in a 3-0 victory over NE-10 foe Assumption College. He followed that up with a 40-save blanking of Trinity College on December 5th, a game in which he preserved Stonehill's 2-0 triumph by making 22 saves in a frantic third period. Tasiopoulos also posted a 42-save effort in his first start of the season against Plymouth State University, although Stonehill dropped a tight 3-2 contest.

Stonehill (7-9-0, 3-0-0 NE-10) will try to build on its first win of 2014 tonight, as the Skyhawks are set to face off with NE-10 rival Saint Michael's College at 7:00 p.m in South Burlington, Vt. Stonehill then wraps up its six-game road trip on Wednesday night with another conference matchup at Assumption College, before returning to the Foxboro Sports Center on Saturday for its third straight conference clash, this time against Southern New Hampshire University.
