FOXBORO, Mass. (December 10, 2013) – Led by two goals from sophomore forward Dan Szerlip (Newton, Mass./Concordia), the Wentworth Institute of Technology ice hockey team defeated Stonehill College 3-1 tonight in non-conference action at the Foxboro Sports Center.

Stonehill's lone score in the contest came from sophomore forward Richard Harris (Grand Island, N.Y./Valley Jr. Warriors), who has now found the back of the net in six consecutive contests.

For the second time in as many games, classmate Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, N.Y./Boston Bulldogs) provided the assist on Harris' goal, giving him a Northeast-10-best 20 points this season. With the assist, Dorgan also extended his season-long point streak to 11 games. The sophomore has now registered a point in 14 straight games dating back to last season.

Junior netminder Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) stopped 41 shots, including 30 in the final two periods, to keep Stonehill within striking distance until the final buzzer.

Wentworth struck first at the 14:05 mark of the opening period, when Szerlip stuffed home a loose puck following a scramble in front of the net. The Leopards then extended their advantage to two 4:46 into the second period, when Szerlip cleaned up a rebound after two shots by junior forward Jordan Bourgonje (Spruce Grove, Alta./University of Alberta). Bourgonje recorded two assists in Wentworth's victory, giving him five this season.

Stonehill responded midway through the period when Dorgan found Harris to close the gap to 2-1 in favor of Wentworth, but the Skyhawks were unable to do any further damage. Junior forward Sean McLaughlin (North Billerica, Mass./Boston EJHL) added one more goal for the Leopards with under four minutes remaining in the game, as Wentworth emerged with a 3-1 triumph.

Wentworth junior goaltender Alex Peck (Kirkland, Que./New York AtlJHL) was solid between the pipes, as he stopped all but one of the 21 shots that came his way. With the win, Peck improves to 3-1-1 this season.

Stonehill (5-6-0, 3-0-0) will be right back in action at the Foxboro Sports Center tomorrow night, as the Skyhawks are set to take on Westfield State University at 7 p.m. Following tomorrow night's action, Stonehill will be off for almost a month, until returning to the ice on January 10th at the College of Brockport. Wentworth (4-6-1, 2-3-0 ECAC NE) is back in action on Friday night at UMass Boston.
