Tasiopoulos Tabbed As NE-10 Goaltender of the Week

Norwell, Mass. native earns recognition after 20-save shutout of Assumption

EASTON, Mass. (November 18, 2013) – Stonehill College junior goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Goaltender of the Week, it was announced today by the league office. Tasiopoulos collects the honors for the third time in his career, as he was recognized once as a freshman in 2011-12, and again last season as a sophomore.

In Stonehill's only contest of the week, Tasiopoulos stopped all 20 of the shots that came his way, as the Skyhawks defeated Northeast-10 foe Assumption College 3-0 last Wednesday night at the Foxboro Sports Center. With the game still locked in a scoreless tie in the second period, Tasiopoulos sent back a penalty shot opportunity by Assumption's Ross White. The 2011-12 Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year posted just the second shutout of his career, as he blanked Nichols College with a 36-save effort during his freshman campaign.

Tasiopoulos has now impressed in both of his starts between the pipes this season, as the netminder stopped 42 shots in a 3-2 loss to Plymouth State on November 7th. Overall this season, Tasiopoulos has made 62 saves in 65 opportunities, allowing only three goals. His 1.51 goals against average is good for the top spot in the NE-10 by more than a goal, and his .954 save percentage also ranks first in the conference.

Stonehill has now won both of its Northeast-10 contests this season, after a 7-3 come-from-behind victory over Southern New Hampshire University to open the 2013-14 campaign on November 2nd.

Stonehill (2-2, 2-0 NE-10) returns to action tomorrow night, as the Skyhawks are set to travel to Canton, N.Y. to take on SUNY Canton in a 4 p.m. faceoff. Stonehill returns home to the Foxboro Sports Center on Tuesday, November 26th, when the Skyhawks host Wesleyan (Conn.) University.
