EASTON, Mass. (November 6, 2013) – Stonehill College senior forward Bryan Rooney (Canton, Mass./New Hampton School) and freshman goaltender Joshua Hickey (Pittsburgh, Pa./Whitby Fury) have both earned weekly ice hockey honors from the Northeast-10 Conference for their efforts in Stonehill's 7-3 comeback victory over Southern New Hampshire University in Saturday's season opener.

Rooney earns the NE-10 Player of the Week award for the third time in his career, after doing so twice last season. As a sophomore in 2011-12, Rooney finished 11th overall in the NE-10 with eight goals. As a junior last season, he doubled his goal total to 16, while also adding 16 assists. His 32 total points was good for second overall in the NE-10.

On Saturday night, Rooney's third period hat trick helped Stonehill seal its 7-3 victory over Southern New Hampshire. With Stonehill leading 3-2 after two periods, Rooney gave the Skyhawks a two-score advantage with his first tally of the season 1:40 into the final frame. After the Penmen drew closer with a goal, Rooney extended Stonehill's lead back to two with only 4:08 remaining in the contest. The senior captain completed his first career hat trick with a power play goal in the waning seconds of the season opening win.

Hickey earns the Rookie of the Week award for his 20 save performance against Southern New Hampshire. The freshman stopped seven shots in the first period, ten in the second, and three in the final frame to seal Stonehill's comeback. Prior to his arrival in Easton, Hickey competed for the Whitby Fury of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. In 22 games for the Fury last season, Hickey posted a 2.67 goals against average with 446 saves and a .907 save percentage in 1035 minutes. He also recorded two shutouts and went 11-6-1.

Stonehill (1-1, 1-0 NE-10) returns to action tomorrow night, as the Skyhawks are set to host Plymouth State University at the Foxboro Sports Center in Stonehill's 2013 home opener.
