Palella Receives NE-10 Weekly Awards

Chicago, Ill. freshman takes home Goaltender of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors

EASTON, Mass. (Febrary 19, 2013) – Freshman goaltender Matthew Palella (Chicago, Ill.) of the Stonehill College ice hockey team has received two Northeast-10 Conference weekly awards, the league announced Tuesday.

Palella was named NE-10 Goaltender of the Week and NE-10 Rookie of the Week for his efforts Saturday night in Stonehill's victory over Assumption College. It is the third week this season that Palella has been recognized as a weekly award winner.

The freshman goaltender recorded his first career shutout in the 6-0 win against Assumption. Palella notched 30 saves including 12 saves in both the second and third periods to solidify the win. On the season Palella holds a 2.58 goals against average and a .921 save percentage. He ranks second among all NE-10 goaltenders in goals against average in conference games (2.60) and third in save percentage (.923).

Stonehill (11-12-0, 6-4-0 NE-10) travels to Saint Anselm to take on the Hawks in the regular season finale tonight at 7:00 p.m.
