FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (January 23, 2013) – The Stonehill College Skyhawks skated to a 6-2 victory over Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference play Wednesday night at the Foxboro Sports Center.

Junior assistant captain Bryan Rooney (Canton, Mass) registered a career-high five points including two goals and three assists to lead the Skyhawks. Kevin Aufiero (Canton, Mass.) added three points (1g, 2a) for Stonehill, while freshman Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, N.Y.) dished out two assists to extend his scoring streak to nine games. Senior captain Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass.) chipped in with a goal and an assist of his own.

Freshman goaltender Matthew Palella (Chicago, Ill.) earned his second career victory for the Skyhawks. Palella recorded a career-high 36 saves to lead Stonehill. Senior Bobby Bowden (Springfield, Mass.) posted 40 saves in the loss, as the Greyhounds were outshot 46-38 in a high-intensity affair.

The Greyhounds were led by juniors Ross White (Uxbridge, Mass.) and Kyle Zobler (Millbury, Mass.), who both recorded two points on one goal and one assist. Senior captain Keven Meehan (Melrose, Mass.) added an assist for Assumption.

Rooney put Stonehill on the board following an Assumption penalty just 1:09 into the game. Borges carried the puck up the right side and behind the net before dishing it to Rooney who buried his 9th tally of the season to put Stonehill ahead 1-0.

Rooney added his second strike of the game just two minutes later when he buried home a rebound off of a Bowden save. Aufiero and Anthony D'Elia (Stamford, Conn.) were credited with assists on the goal. With 2:40 left in the first, Andrew Miller (Oxford, Conn.) netted his first goal of the season to put Stonehill on top, 3-0 at the break.

Assumption answered back midway through the second period. The Greyhounds took advantage of a 5-minute power-play, as White notched his fifth goal of the season. Stonehill recovered two minutes later when Borges pounced on a rebound to score his league-leading 13th goal of the season. The Greyhounds refused to go away though, as White stole the puck in Stonehill's zone and led an odd-man rush. White made the defender commit before feeding it to Zobler whose strike made it 4-2 at the end of the second period.

Aufiero ended any hopes of a comeback when he scored just 33 seconds into the third to give Stonehill a 5-2 lead. Connor Fallon (Weymouth, Mass.) added his first career goal at 11:33 to make it 6-2.

Stonehill (9-10-0, 5-1-0 NE-10) will travel to Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, January 26 to take on the Penmen in an NE-10 matchup. The Skyhawks return home Saturday, February 2 when they play host to Franklin Pierce. Next up for the Greyhounds (4-14-1, 1-5-1 NE-10) is a tilt with Franklin Pierce on Saturday night.
