Borges and Aufiero fuel four goal first period for Skyhawks
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (December 4, 2012) – Stonehill College jumped out to a 4-0 lead after a period of play and made it stand in claiming a 6-4 triumph over Framingham State University in non-conference ice hockey action at the Foxboro Sports Center tonight.
Senior captain Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass./Williston Northampton School) and sophomore Kevin Aufiero (Canton, Mass.) each posted two goals and an assist for three points to lead Stonehill to the bounce back win. Senior J.J. Sabin (Milton, Mass./The Tilton School), junior Bryan Rooney (Canton, Mass./New Hampton School) and sophomore Brendan Greene (Weymouth, Mass.) each dished two assists, while freshmen Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, N.Y.) and Dan Graham (Billerica, Mass./Williston Northampton School) each chipped in with a goal apiece for the Skyhawks.
Sophomore Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) preserved the win with 35 saves, including 14 in a shutout first period as Stonehill jumped out to a five goal lead early in the second period. Junior Dale Adams (Gardner, Mass./Groton School) registered 40 stops in goal for Framingham State, including 25 in the first period as the Skyhawks registered a 29-14 edge in shots on goal for the frame. Stonehill finished with a 46-39 advantage in shots and both teams went 2-for-6 on the power play.
Junior Daniel Miressi (Monroe, Conn.) and sophomore Ryan McDonald (Anchorage, Alaska) both led Framingham State with a goal and two assists for three points each. Senior Ben Pacific (Marlborough, Mass.) and junior Tom Tracy (Wakefield, Mass./Hebron Academy) both chipped in goals for the Rams.

Stonehill struck for a pair of power play goals in the opening four minutes, taking advantage of two early tripping penalties by Framingham State. Dorgan opened the scoring 2:45 into the contest with his fifth of the season, assisted by sophomore Stephen Balsamo (Atkinson, N.H./Brewster Academy) and freshman Travis Army (Englewood, Colo./Worcester Academy). Borges added a power play marker for his first goal of the night just 1:15 later, from Sabin and Greene, at 4:00.
Aufiero followed with both his goals on the night to send Stonehill into the first intermission with a four goal lead. His first, assisted by Borges and Rooney, came at 12:15, before he potted his fifth of the year, from Greene and Sabin, at 15:42 with the Skyhawks skating on a 4-on-4. The Skyhawks extended their lead to five goals with Graham's second of the season, assisted by freshman Anthony D'Elia (Stamford, Conn./Gunnery School), 7:06 into the second period.
Framingham State fought back with a pair of power play goals to close out the second period with Miressi putting the Rams on the scoreboard with an unassisted tally at 11:15. He and freshman Rich Hill (Tampa, Fla.) then set up McDonald for his sixth goal of the year with 1:18 remaining in the period.
Stonehill stopped the momentum with Borges' team-leading tenth goal of the season, assisted by Rooney and Aufiero, 9:24 into the third. Framingham still wouldn't go quietly, adding two late goals in a 21-second span to close within a pair down the stretch. McDonald set up Tracy's first goal of the year at 15:11, before Pacific added his first of the season, from McDonald and Miressi, at 15:32. Stonehill held the rest of the way to halt a four game slide.
Stonehill (5-8-0, 2-1-0 NE-10) is right back on the ice tomorrow night with it visits Suffolk University for a non-conference clash at Steriti Rink in Boston's historic North End at 7:25 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Saturday to host Saint Michael's College for a key Northeast-10 Conference clash at the Foxboro Sports Center at 4:10 p.m. The Purple & White game will feature a #skyhawknation fan bus and caravan that will meet in lot 9 behind the Old Student Union, departing for the rink at 3:30 p.m. There will be giveaways for the first 50 Stonehill students in attendance at the Sports Center.
Framingham State (1-7-0, 0-4 MASCAC) is back in action on Thursday for a Conference matchup at Salem State University at 7 p.m.
