Westfield State Rallies In Third Period, Downs Stonehill 6-5 In OT

Borges collects four points for the Skyhawks

Senior Dana Borges compiled two goals and two assists for a four-point night against the Owls.

WESTFIELD, Mass. (November 10, 2012) – The Westfield State University men's ice hockey team rallied from a three goal deficit in the third period to defeat Stonehill College, 6-5, in overtime on Saturday night at Amelia Park in a non-conference matchup.

Junior forward Vince Perreault (Braeside, Ontario) sparked the Owls comeback victory with a hat-trick in the third stanza. Perreault scored at the 4:30 mark of the period, again at 9:00 on the power play and once more with the game-tying goal one minute and 37-seconds left in regulation. Classmate and defenseman Billy Miller (Morgan Hill, Calif.) netted the game-winning tally at 2:42 of the overtime session with a man-advantage.

Freshman forward Dalton Jay (Hamilton, Ontario) facilitated Westfield State's offense with three assists, all coming in the third period.

Stonehill received a four-point night from senior captain and forward Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass./Williston Northampton). Borges, who jumpstarted the Skyhawks offense just 23 seconds into the game with his team-leading fifth goal of the season for an early 1-0 lead, scored twice and dished out two assists on the night.

Sophomore forward Kevin Aufiero (Canton, Mass.) also added one goal and one  helper. Senior defenseman J.J. Sabin (Milton, Mass./Tilton School) and junior forward Bryan Rooney (Canton, Mass./New Hampton School) posted similar stat lines along with Aufiero.

Westfield State junior netminder Eddie Davey (Orangeville, Ontario) stopped 20 shots on goal while sophomore goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) made a game-high 39 saves for Stonehill.

The Skyhawks (2-4-0, 0-0-0 NE-10) host Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday, November 14 in their Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) season opener at the Foxboro Sports Center. The Owls (3-0-0, 0-0-0 MASCAC) open up conference play against Plymouth State University, at home, with opening faceoff scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
