Stonehill Falls To Plymouth State, 5-1

Borges Nets Team-Leading Fourth Goal In Loss

Senior Dana Borges netted Stonehill's lone goal in its 5-1 loss.

PLYMOUTH, N.H. (November 8, 2012) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team fell to Plymouth State University, 5-1, in non-conference action on Thursday night at Hanaway Rink.

Senior forward Alex Cottle (West Chester, Pa.) notched the game-winning goal at 14:43 of the second period and also added an assist on the first goal of the contest to lead the Panthers.

Junior forward Travis Stevens (Montclair, Calif.) deposited one goal and one helper while classmate and netminder Tyler Ingerson (Concord, N.H.) turned away 15 shots to improve to 1-0-0 overall on the season.

Senior forward Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass./Williston Northampton) potted his team-leading fourth goal of the season, on the power play, at 2:26 of the third period to cut the Skyhawks deficit to 2-1 at the time.

Plymouth State answered with three-straight uncontested markers including a shorthanded tally from freshman forward Andrew Wigg (Lantz, N.S.) just 51-seconds after Borges' goal to put the game on ice. Stevens made it 4-1 with his first goal of the season at 18:59, an empty net score, and sophomore forward Mike Freitag (Westmont, Ill.) pushed the margin to 5-1 at 19:48 with his first goal of the season.

Stonehill goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) made a game-high 21 saves in the loss.

The Skyhawks (2-3-0, 0-0-0 NE-10) travel to Westfield State University on Saturday, November 10 with opening faceoff scheduled for 5:35 p.m. Plymouth State (1-0-0, 0-0-0 MASCAC) visits Westfield State on Tuesday, November 13 at 7:35 p.m.
