Kevin Aufiero's first goal of the season proved to be the game-winner for the Skyhawks.

FOXBORO, Mass. (November 3, 2012) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team posted a 4-2 victory over SUNY Canton in non-conference action on Saturday night at the Foxboro Sports Center.

Junior forward Bill Carey (Weymouth, Mass./South Shore Kings) potted two goals, one on the power play and one shorthanded, while sophomore forward Kevin Aufiero (Canton, Mass./Walpole Express) deposited the game-winner at 8:57 of the third period to lead the Skyhawks.

Senior captain and forward Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass./Williston Northampton) opened up the scoring for Stonehill at 4:02 of the first period.

The Kangaroos received markers from freshman forward Kristian Leach (Indianapolis, Ind./Kenai River) and junior defenseman Cory Giczewski (Fountain Valley, Calif./Laconia Leafs) in the second and third periods, respectively.

Sophomore goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) stopped 27 shots for the Skyhawks. Freshman netminder Luis Puig (Chicago, Ill./Soo Eagles) made 32 saves for SUNY Canton.

Trailing 2-1 in the third period, Giczewski evened the score for the Kangaroos with a slapshot from the blueline that snuck behind Tasiopoulos for his second goal of the season. Senior forwards Cory Frizell (Orleans, Ontario/Gloucester Rangers) and John Payne (Port Moody, B.C./Melfort Mustangs) were both given assists on the tally.

Aufiero answered for Stonehill at 8:57 when his shot fluttered over Puig into the net before the net was dislodged on a feed from sophomore forward Stephen Balsamo (Atkinson, N.H./Brewster Academy).

Carey added the insurance goal at the 10:21 mark of the third stanza on the power play with a shot through Puig's five-hole from the right faceoff dot.

Carey's shorthanded tally came in the second period at 18:33 on a breakaway bid. Carey gathered a loose puck in the neutral zone, attacked from the right side of the net and beat Puig forehand-to-backhand to give the Skyhawks a 2-0 advantage at the time.

In the first period, Borges netted his third goal of the season on a wrist shot from the slot into the upper left corner of the net over Puig's glove.
