EASTON, Mass. (June 1, 2012) - Stonehill College junior forward Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) is currently taking part in a two-week political science course offered at the College by Professor Peter Ubertaccio called Politics in Washington.

The course, which ends Saturday, has taken Borges to many important places in Washington, D.C. Here are some highlights of Borges' trip.

Athletic Communications (AC): Dana, can you talk about why you decided to take this course and why it was important?

Dana Borges (DB): The purpose of this class is to give us a hands on experience of all the various aspects that make Washington run. As a hockey player, this was an experience that I could not pass up. Because we play both semesters I am not able to study abroad but this allowed me to have the same experience. The class is run by Peter Ubertaccio and he has developed a great schedule for seminars everyday. We visit about three places daily to hear from different speakers on various topics.

AC: What have been the highlights of your trip thus far?

DB: For me, the highlights of the trip have included touring the West Wing of the White House, meeting Senators Kerry and Brown, and also going to the Bureau of Diplomatic Security. Stepping into tho West Wing of the White House was a surreal experience as many people do not get to gaze into the Oval Office. It was also to my surprise that we were able to not only meet our Senators, but we were also able to ask them questions during their very busy days.

AC: Have you learned anything else on the trip that you would like to share?

DB: Diplomatic Security taught me about another federal law enforcement agency that I am striving to be apart of one day. I have learned so much about other various topics that have helped broaden my horizons. I am thankful for Profesor Ubertaccio and Stonehill for providing me with this opportunity.
