EASTON, Mass. (May 18, 2012) – Stonehill College junior forward Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District I At-Large Team as selected by NCAA Division II College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members from the East Region. Borges is eligible for Academic All-America Honors, selected by CoSIDA's Academic All-America committee, to be announced later this month. The men's at large team category includes student-athletes from the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.

Borges becomes the second player in the history of the Stonehill College men's ice hockey program to earn Academic All-District honors, joining Matt Curran '08 (Scarborough, Maine) – a healthcare administration major with a 3.22 grade point average (GPA) – who was selected to the College Division second team in 2008.

Borges collects his second major academic award this season after earning the Northeast-10 Conference Sport Excellence Award in April – also a first for the ice hockey program. The award recognizes student-athletes in the conference who have excelled both on the field of play and in the classroom. Borges boasts a 3.68 cumulative grade point average as a criminology major, with a minor in political science. Borges has earned the St. Thomas Aquinas Medal Award for having the highest grade point average on the team the past two years. Borges is also a two-time NE-10 Academic All-Conference selection and has won a Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award.

The junior forward helped Stonehill reach the NE-10 Championship for the third time in program history this past season. He played all 25 games for the Skyhawks and ranked third on the team in scoring with four goals and 17 assists for 21 points. Borges finished 13th overall in the NE-10 in points and tied for sixth overall in assists. Borges also compiled two separate point streaks of at least three games notching ten points combined between both spans. Borges has not committed a penalty in 57-straight games spanning back to February 6, 2010, his freshman season.

In 74 games played, Borges has compiled 14 goals and 36 assists for 50 points, compiling double-figure assist seasons as a freshman and junior. He scored a career-high six goals – five on the power play – during his freshman year and dished out a career-high 17 assists this past season. Borges, a NE-10 All-Rookie team selection in 2009-10, recorded his longest point streak of his career during his freshman campaign as he scored five points (two goals, three assists) over a four-game span from 1/28/10 to 2/6/10. Overall in his career, Borges has only committed five penalties for ten minutes - all occurring in his freshman year.

Stonehill went 10-12-13 overall and 6-3-2 in NE-10 play in 2011-12 advancing to its third conference championship in program history. The Skyhawks fell to Saint Anselm College, 4-1, in the title game on March 3. Stonehill, who earned the third seed in the tournament, was picked to finish last in a two-way tie with Southern New Hampshire University in the NE-10 preseason poll. The Skyhawks went 3-0-1 overall in its last four games to earn a tournament berth and promptly bounced Assumption College, 3-1, in the semifinal round on the road before falling to the Hawks in the title game.
