Tasiopoulos Named NE-10 Rookie of the Week

EASTON, Mass. (January 30, 2012) – Stonehill College freshman netminder Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) has been named the Rookie of the Week by the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10), it was announced earlier today.

Tasiopou­los posted a 1-1-0 record overall in two starts turning away 72 shots total on the week for the Skyhawks while compiling a .947 save percentage and a 2.03 goals against average (GAA). In a 3-1 win over Southern New Hampshire, the freshman netminder made 44 saves, includ­ing a game-high 17 in the first period, to give Stonehill its first win at home this season. Against Assumption on Wednesday, Tasiopoulos had 28 saves in a 3-2 loss.

Tasiopoulos has been honored as the conference's top newcomer twice this season and once as the Goaltender of the Week on November 15.

Among all goaltenders in the NE-10, Tasiopoulos ranks second in save percentage (.919), goals against average (.276) and third in winning percentage (.462). The freshman has compiled 30 saves in five separate games this season and 40 saves in a pair of contests registering a 4-3-0 record during that stretch.

Stonehill (6-8-2, 3-2-1 NE-10) hosts UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, January 31 at the Foxboro Sports Center at 7 p.m.
