FOXBORO, Mass. (January 23, 2012) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team earned a 3-3 tie in overtime with Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Monday night at the Foxboro Sports Center.

Junior forward Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) spearheaded the Skyhawks two-goal effort in the third period which eventually forced overtime netting the game-tying goal at 17:36 and assisting on Bill Carey's (Weymouth, Mass.) fourth goal of the season at 15:40 that cut the deficit to 3-2. Sophomore forward Bryan Rooney (Canton, Mass./New Hampton School) potted Stonehill's first marker of the contest at 15:57 of the second stanza.

For Franklin Pierce, junior defenseman Brendan McCarron (Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) led the Ravens offense with two goals, both in the second period. Sophomore defenseman Andrew Dadds (Mount Ephraim, N.J.) added his third goal of the season at 8:32 of the third period.

Trailing 3-1 in the third period with a 4-on-3 man advantage, Stonehill first-year head coach Patrick Leahy called a timeout to pull starting goaltender Tyler Jackson (Little Silver, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) and add an extra skater to the attack. Leahy's strategy paid dividends as Borges won the ensuing faceoff in the offensive attack zone and Carey buried Christopher Gorovitz' (Framingham, Mass./Tilton School) rebound past Ravens netminder Dave O'Brien (Groton, Mass.) for a 3-2 deficit.

Borges evened the score at 3-3 on an odd man rush at 17:36 roofing a centering feed from teammate and freshman forward Kevin Aufiero (Canton, Mass.) over O'Brien's blocker for his third marker of the season. Sophomore defenseman Andrew Miller (Oxford, Conn./Kent School) tallied an assist on the goal.

At 8:32 of the third period, Dadds padded Franklin Pierce's lead to 3-1 at the time redirecting Dino Federico's (Canton, Mass.) wrister from the point behind Jackson for his third of the season.

The Ravens jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second as McCarron scored his first of two markers at 1:22 of the stanza beating a sprawling and out of position Jackson top-shelf blocker side. McCarron added to the advantage at 7:41 sniping a shot off of the lower left post for his third of the year. Rooney cut the deficit to 2-1 at 15:57 punching home a Gorovitz rebound at the doorstep for his sixth goal of the season.

O'Brien held Stonehill in check for most of the contest making 43 saves total including a game-high 19 in the second period. Jackson compiled 23 saves for the Skyhawks.

Both teams saw limited offensive chances in overtime combining for just three shots on goal.
