Four Goal Second Period Lifts Skyhawks Past Penmen

Aufiero scores twice in second period for Stonehill in NE-10 season opener 

HOOKSETT, N.H. (November 16, 2011) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team picked up its second-straight victory on Wednesday night defeating Southern New Hampshire University, 4-3, in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action at the Ice Den. 

Freshman forward Kevin Aufiero (Canton, Mass.) potted two goals to lead the offense while freshman defenseman Oliver Williams (Centerport, N.Y.) and sophomore forward Garrett Lessard (East Sandwich, Mass./Williston Northampton School) also found the back of the net for the Skyhawks. 

Scoreless through one period of play, both offenses exploded in the second combining for six of the games seven goals. 

Southern New Hampshire junior forward Charles Wisniewski (Strongsville, Ohio) opened up the scoring at 2:41 of the period finishing on feeds from Michael Settipani (Charlestown, Mass./Hebron Academy) and Tyler Pascucci (North Reading, Mass./Winchendon School) for his second goal of the season. 

Williams responded for Stonehill two minutes and nine seconds later to tie the score at 1-1 beating sophomore goaltender Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) on assists from Christopher Gorovitz (Framingham, Mass./Tilton School) and Bill Carey (Weymouth, Mass.) for his first marker of the season. 

Pascucci wasted little time reclaiming the lead for the Penmen firing a shot past NE-10 Goaltender of the Week Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) to make it 2-1. 

Aufiero took over for Stonehill in the middle-half of the second period netting a pair of goals just 8:24 apart to give the Skyhawks a 3-2 advantage. Aufiero now leads the team in markers with three and ranks third in points. 

Lessard capped the scoring and netted the eventual game winner at 17:15 of the period. 

In the third, freshman forward John Humphrey (Charlestown, Mass./New Hampton School) added his fourth goal of the season late in the stanza at 18:17. 

Tasiopoulos turned away 20 shots in net for Stonehill improving to 2-3-0 overall. Holske made 37 saves on the night including a game-high 21 in a scoreless first period. 

Stonehill (2-4-0, 1-0-0 NE-10) hosts Assumption College in NE-10 action on Saturday, November 19 at 2 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (0-4-1, 0-1-0 NE-10) travels to Franklin Pierce University on Saturday for a NE-10 matchup at 3 p.m.
