Assumption Handles Stonehill, 5-2

O'Kane's hat-trick leads Greyhounds past Skyhawks in consolation round of Becker Ice Breaker Tournament

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. (November 5, 2011) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team lost its third-straight contest on Saturday afternoon as Assumption College defeated the Skyhawks, 5-2, in non-conference action in the consolation round of the Becker Ice Breaker Tournament at the New England Sport Center.

Senior forward Pat O'Kane (Hollis, N.H./Bishop Guertin) scored a hat-trick while Taylor Larsen (Blackstone, Mass./Worcester Academy) dished out three assists to guide Assumption offensively. Ross White (Uxbridge, Mass./Uxbridge) and Ken Pia (Guilford, Conn./Xavier) also added markers.

For Stonehill, Bryan Rooney (Canton, Mass./New Hampton School) netted his second goal of the season at 14:18 of the second period past Assumption goaltender Bobby Bowden (Springfield, Mass./Williston-Northampton) on a nice pass from Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy). Borges potted his first tally of the season on the power play at 10:59 of the third period on assists from senior captain Patrick Greene (Weymouth, Mass./Catholic Memorial) and freshman defenseman Oliver Williams (Centerport, N.Y.) to round out the Skyhawks scoring.

O'Kane opened up the scoring early for the Greyhounds at 3:01 of the first period beating Stonehill goaltender Dominic Sawaia (Cranston, R.I./Canterbury School) on a breakaway opportunity up the right side of the boards off of feeds from junior forward Jaime Vona (West Seneca, N.Y./Saint Francis) and Larsen for a 1-0 advantage.

After White's power play goal at 6:45 of the first period, O'Kane made it 3-0 at 11:05 of the stanza as Larsen and senior defenseman Kevin Glanzman (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) set up O'Kane's second tally of the afternoon.

O'Kane completed the hat-trick in the second period with a power play goal just 1 minute and 53 seconds in assists from Mike Janson (Ridgewood, N.J./Bergen Catholic) and Larsen.

Bowden was the difference in net for Assumption turning away 46 shots on net. Sawaia made 18 saves while freshman goaltender Will Husic (Glastonbury, Conn./Bridgton Academy) had two saves in the third period.
