Canton, Mass. native ranks among conference's top-scoring freshmen

EASTON, Mass. (February 28, 2011) – Stonehill College freshman Bryan Rooney (Canton, Mass./Canton) has been selected to the Northeast-10 Conference Ice Hockey All-Rookie Team, as voted on by the conference's six head coaches.

Rooney appeared in 23 of 24 games during his rookie season, and ranked second on the team in scoring with 10 goals. He scored his first career goal in Stonehill's home opener, a 4-1 victory over Franklin Pierce University on November 20, and was a fixture on the power-play unit late in the season, recording two goals. He also ranked fourth in scoring among all NE-10 freshmen.

Rooney earned NE-10 Rookie of the Week honors once during the season, after leading the Skyhawks with three goals in two games during the first week of February. Beginning with a two-goal effort to power Stonehill to a 4-1 home victory against Framingham State University that week, Rooney recorded points in seven of the next eight games to finish the season on a hot streak.

Stonehill (5-18-1, 3-6-1 NE-10) finished fifth in the conference standings, and fell 5-2 to Assumption College on Saturday in the first round of the NE-10 Ice Hockey Championship.
