RINDGE, N.H. (January 29, 2011) – The Stonehill College men’s ice hockey team dropped a 6-1 decision to Franklin Pierce University in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup Saturday in New Hampshire.

Ravens sophomore Roscoe Sweeney (Falmouth, Mass./Boston Jr. Bruins) notched two goals and two assists for a game-high four points as Franklin Pierce dominated offensively to carry a 5-0 lead into the third period. Sophomore Adam Dallaire (Waltham, Mass./The Winchendon School) scored twice, and junior Patrick Shortt (New Haven, Conn./New Hampton) and sophomore Brendan McCarron each added a goal and an assist. Sophomore J.J. Sabin (Milton, Mass./Milton) scored the Skyhawks’ lone goal in the third period, with help from junior Patrick Greene (Weymouth, Mass./Catholic Memorial) and senior Angelo Todesca (Westwood, Mass./Catholic Memorial).

Senior Derek Chapdelaine (Granby, Mass./Springfield Cathedral) and junior Tyler Jackson (Little Silver, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) split time in the net for Stonehill, combining for 20 saves on the night. Freshman Dave O’Brien (Groton, Mass./Northern Cyclones) made 28 stops to earn the decision for the Ravens.

With a 1-0 lead on an early score by Dallaire, Sweeney struck twice on special team shifts during the second period to put the game out of reach. After netting a power-play goal just 25 seconds into the period, he went on to put away his second of the night with the Ravens shorthanded at 12:30, collecting a Stonehill turnover in the neutral zone and scoring on a breakaway. The Franklin Pierce penalty kill also held the Skyhawks to just one conversion in nine tries on the power play, shutting them out until 4:13 of the third period, when Sabin broke through for Stonehill with a blast from the left point to beat O’Brien.

Dallaire added his second goal of the game early in the third period, and McCarron put one home at 12:43 from sophomore Michael Carr (South Boston, Mass./New Hampton), who picked up three assists on the night, and Sweeney for the final 6-1 margin.

Stonehill (3-12-1, 2-3-1 NE-10) next hosts Framingham State College on Wednesday for a 7:40 p.m. faceoff.
