Stonehill Falls 7-2 at Becker

Skyhawks are dealt first loss, will face Suffolk in consolation game tomorrow

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. (November 5, 2010) – Stonehill College fell 7-2 to Becker College in the opening round of the Becker Ice Breaker Tournament in non-conference hockey competition Friday evening.

Senior Angelo Todesca (Westwood, Mass./Catholic Memorial) scored twice for Stonehill and junior goaltender Tyler Jackson (Little Silver, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) made 34 saves, but Becker scored three times in each of the final two periods and went 5 for 6 on the penalty kill to hold off the Skyhawks. Sophomore Branden Parkhouse (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) recorded two goals and an assist to lead Becker with three points, and sophomore David Graham (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) and junior Robert Johnson (Fenton, Mich.) each picked up two assists. Junior Jake Rosenthal (Wantagh, N.Y.) made 20 stops in the net for the Hawks.

The Skyhawks held Becker to a single goal in the first period, but the Hawks went ahead 3-0 early in the second period as freshman Korby Anderson (Owantonna, Minn.) and junior Brian Murray (Manalapan, N.J.) connected in the opening minutes. Todesca put the Skyhawks on the board with a goal at 8:43 from junior Patrick Greene (Weymouth, Mass./Catholic Memorial) and senior John Yokow (Windsor, Conn./Northwest Catholic) for Stonehill’s only power play conversion of the night.

Todesca came back with a second score at 12:31 of the third period, but Becker stayed out in front after a power-play tally by Parkhouse, and added a pair of insurance goals in the final minutes.

Stonehill (1-1) will face Suffolk University in the tournament’s consolation game tomorrow at 1:20 p.m.
