Southern N.H. Drops Stonehill, 8-3
Penmen ride six second period goals to key NE-10 victory
HOOKSETT, N.H. (February 13, 2010) - Southern New Hampshire University scored six goals in the second period and never looked back in collecting a key 8-3 triumph over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference ice hockey action at the Ice Den tonight.
Sophomore Brandon Bradley (Wichita, Kan.) led Southern New Hampshire to the victory with three goals, including two during the Penmen's six-goal second period barrage. SNHU scored all six in the first ten minutes of the second stanza to take control, including four in a three-minute span. Juniors Bob Bryant (Nashua, N.H.) and Kent Honeyman (Marietta, Ga.) each posted a goal and two assists for the Penmen, while junior Andrew Hildreth (Leominster, Mass.) dished four assists.
Stonehill got goals from senior captain Peter Roundy (Simsbury, Conn./Kimball Union), extending his point streak to seven games, and freshman Christopher Gorovitz (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) and Sean McNeil (Canton, Mass./Canton).

Freshman Mike Mastracci (Pittsburgh, Pa.) made 30 saves, including 12 in the third period alone, to preserve the win for SNHU. Sophomore Tyler Jackson (Little Silver, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) stopped 31 shots for Stonehill. The Penmen finished with a 39-33 advantage in shots on goal for the contest, converting on 1-of-4 power-play chances while adding a shorthanded goal. The Skyhawks were just 1-of-9 with the man-advantage.
Bryant put Southern New Hampshire in front with a power-play goal just 2:30 into the contest, assisted by junior Troy Maybury (South Portland, Maine) and Hildreth. Stonehill evened the score line at 15:41 with Roundy's tenth goal of the season, unassisted.
The Penmen took over with their second-period barrage, sparked by sophomore Doug Boulanger's (Beauport, Quebec) fourth goal of the season, assisted by Hildreth and senior Ryan DiBartolomeo (Leominster, Mass.), just 1:23 into the frame. Bradley followed with the first two goals of his hat trick night in the span of 2:11 with tallies at 4:39 and 6:50. The latter sparked a four-goal run over 2:56 that put the game on ice.
Stonehill netted the next two goals as Gorovitz scored his fifth of the season, on the power-play, at 14:06, before McNeil potted his first collegiate goal 12:01 into the third. Bradley capped his hat trick with his tenth of the season with 1:30 left in regulation.
Stonehill (8-12-1, 1-6-0 NE-10) and Southern New Hampshire (4-13-3, 2-5-2 NE-10) will wrap up their home-and-home series at the Foxborough Sports Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The winner will clinch the two NE-10 points in the regular season series, with the teams splitting the points in the event of a tie.
