EASTON, Mass. (March 2, 2010) - Two members of the Stonehill College ice hockey team that has reached the semifinal round of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament have been recognized with weekly honors from the NE-10 office this week. Junior Michael Manna (Framingham, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) has been named the NE-10 Goaltender of the Week, while forward Christopher Gorovitz (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) earned Freshman of the Week honors for the Skyhawks.

Manna collects his third Goaltender of the Week award of the season (seventh career) after posting a 4.00 goals against average and .896 save percentage while averaging 34.5 saves per game over two starts in the Stonehill net last week. He made 28 saves, including eight in over 16 minutes of overtime, to help the fifth-seeded Skyhawks overcome a 4-0 deficit with nine minutes to play and claim a 5-4 overtime triumph at fourth-seeded Franklin Pierce University in Saturday's opening round of the NE-10 Tournament. Manna opened the week with 41 stops in Tuesday's 4-1 setback at Saint Michael's College.

Manna has started 11 of the 13 games he has played this season, posting a 4.08 goals against average (7th NE-10) and .877 save percentage (6th) with one shutout in 706:11. He also collected NE-10 Goaltender of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks on November 9 & 16.

Christopher Gorovitz earned Freshman of the Week honors for the second-straight week on Monday.

Manna, the 2007-08 NE-10 Goaltender of the Year as a freshman to also earn Freshman of the Year honors, has started 40 of the 44 games he has played over his career and posted a 3.40 goals against average and .900 save percentage with two career shutouts in 2,453:10. He has totaled 1,390 stops over his career so far (31.6/gm). Manna was recently named to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for earning a 3.00 grade point average or better for the fall 2009 semester.

Gorovitz earned Freshman of the Week honors for the second-straight week after he helped Stonehill rally past Franklin Pierce on Saturday with a goal and two assists for three points. He notched one power play point with an assist on Stonehill's opening goal to spark the comeback. He also assisted on the Skyhawks equalizing goal with 49-seconds left in regulation after netting an unassisted goal to draw the team within 4-3 with 6:14 remaining.

Gorovitz, who was also named the NE-10 Player of the Week to go with his first Freshman of the Week award last Monday, has played 25 of Stonehill's 26 games this season and shares the team lead with 11 goals (9th NE-10) to go with six assists for 17 points - good for fourth on the team. He has also contributed three power-play goals and two game-winners in his first collegiate season. Gorovitz recently earned a spot on both the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and Stonehill Athletic Director's Honor Roll for his performance in the classroom in his first semester at the College.
