Junior goaltender Michael Manna made 30 saves to post his second career shutout against Johnson & Wales tonight.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (November 11, 2009) - Stonehill College scored three first period goals and made them stand up over the final 40 minutes to claim a 3-0 victory over Johnson & Wales University in non-conference ice hockey action at the Foxborough Sports Center tonight.

Junior goaltender Michael Manna (Framingham, Mass./Xavarian Brothers) posted 30 saves to preserve his first shutout of the season (second career) to lead the way for Stonehill. Senior Peter Roundy (Simsbury, Conn./Kimball Union) posted a goal and assist for the Skyhawks, while classmate Christopher Rogers (Westford, Mass./Pomfret School) dished two assists. Stonehill also got goals from junior Andrew Webb (Jaffrey, N.H./Westminster School) and sophomore Bill Harris (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth).

Junior J.R. Woodland (Picton, Ontario) finished with 38 saves in goal for Johnson & Wales. Stonehill posted a 41-30 advantage for shots in the contest and was 2-for-7 on the power-play, while holding the Wildcats 0-for-5. Manna made 24 of his 30 saves in the final two periods.

Stonehill scored twice in a four-minute span to take control of the game. Roundy opened the scoring at 12:17 of the first with his team-leading third goal of the season, assisted by Rogers and senior Brendan Connors (Weymouth, Mass./Xavarian Brothers). Woodland appeared to stop Roundy's shot, but it had enough on it to squirt through the pads and over the goal line.

Stonehill doubled its lead less than four minutes later when Harris netted his first of the year on the power-play at 15:14 from Rogers and Roundy. Webb rounded out the scoring with another power-play goal - this time with a two-man advantage. Sophomore Patrick Greene (Weymouth, Mass./Catholic Memorial) and freshman Tyler Gordon (Franklin, Mass./Xavarian Brothers) assisted on the insurance goal at 19:50.

Stonehill (2-1-1, 0-0-0 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday when it visits Curry College with a faceoff at 4:35 p.m. The Skyhawks return home next Wednesday to host Assumption College for its Northeast-10 Conference opener at 7 p.m.
