Sophomore goaltender 11th Stonehill student-athlete and third from the ice hockey program to be recognized by national publication

EASTON, Mass. (January 6, 2010) - Stonehill College sophomore goaltender Tyler Jackson (Little Silver, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) is featured in the "Faces in the Crowd" section of the January 11 issue of Sports Illustrated set to hit newsstands this weekend.
Jackson, who appears in the national magazine's NFL Playoff Preview issue with Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin on the cover, is recognized after earning three-straight Northeast-10 Conference Goaltender of the Week awards in leading the Stonehill ice hockey team to five-straight wins to close out its first semester schedule. During that stretch he became the first goalie in program history to post back-to-back shutouts and helped the Skyhawks snap a 41-game losing streak to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
Jackson is the 11th Stonehill student-athlete to be recognized by Sports Illustrated in its "Faces in the Crowd" section and the third from the ice hockey program, joining Rob Pascale (12/29/2003) and Brendan O'Brien (2/20/2006). Other Skyhawks who have been recognized are women's lacrosse All-Americans Katie Lambert (6/16/2003), now the head coach at Stonehill, Lauren Stone (5/10/2005) and Erin Acone (6/12/2006), field hockey standouts Caitlin Gleason (10/2/2006) and Aly Boulis (10/22/2007), women's basketball honorable mention All-American Kelsey Simonds (1/23/2006) and brothers Kevin and Keith Gill (4/7/2008) All-Americans for men's indoor track and field.
Jackson, who posted a program record shutout streak of 149:07 at the start of Stonehill's five-game winning streak, has taken over the Northeast-10 lead with his 2.00 goals against average and .936 save percentage to go with a .714 (5-2-0) winning percentage through the first half of the season. In 419:40 played in seven appearances for Stonehill this season he has posted a program-record matching two shutouts, while averaging 29.1 saves per game.
Jackson ranks eighth among all NCAA Division II and III goaltenders combined for save percentage and 13th for goals against average. He stopped 37 of the 38 shots on goal he faced in Stonehill's 4-1 win over UMass Dartmouth on December 8, notching 13 saves in the first period and then 15 in the second. Jackson posted 27 saves in notching his first career shutout on November 29 at Southern New Hampshire University, and then followed that up with 20 saves in a 3-0 shutout against Worcester State College two days later on December 1.
Jackson has played 479:40 over his eight career appearances in two seasons at Stonehill, posting a 2.25 GAA and .928 save percentage while averaging 28.9 saves per game.
Stonehill, which has posted a program-record three shutouts in all this season, leads the NE-10 in team defense, allowing just 3.36 goals per game.
Stonehill (7-6-1, 1-2-0 NE-10) finished its first semester schedule above .500 for the first time in program history. The Skyhawks, who are 28 days deep into a 43-day exam and holiday break, are off until Thursday, January 21, when it visits Westfield State College at 7:35 p.m. Their next home game is a week later on Thursday, January 28, against Wentworth Institute of Technology at the Foxborough Sports Center at 7 p.m.
