Skyhawks Drop Regular Season Finale 4-1
Manchester, N.H. - In the final game of the
regular season, the Stonehill Skyhawks fell to 1-4 in NE-10 play,
dropping a 4-1 decision to the St. Anselm at Sullivan Arena on
Thursday night.
The Hawks scored the lone goal of the first period just over the
midway point when senior tri-captain Joe Fernald passed it to
Coleman Noonan who hit the trailing Michael Adams to beat freshman
goalie Tyler Jackson (Little Silver, N.J.) to make
it 1-0. St. Anselm netminder Kevin Fairweather meanwhile, was only
forced to make five stops against Stonehill in the period.
In the second, The Hawks extended their lead on a goal from Ryan
Butler at the 4:28 mark for the 2-0 lead. Stonehill managed to cut
the lead in half with just under three minutes left in the second
on Paul Reissfelder's (Plymouth, Mass.)
team-leading 11th goal of the season off assists from junior
Pete Roundy (Simsbury, Conn.) and senior
Bill Ninteau (Litchfield, N.H.) to make it 2-1
going into the final period.
The final stanza was all Hawks as senior defenseman Mike Nunzianto
scored just 19 seconds into the period to make it 3-1. St. Anselm
sophomore Jim Toomey then scored on a pass from John Penny on a
two-on-one for the 4-1 final with just under seven minutes
remaining.
Fairweather made 29 saves while allowing only one goal in the win
for the Hawks, while Jackson, making his first career start,
stopped 27 shots for the Skyhawks in the losing effort.
Stonehill drops to 8-12-1 on the season and will return to action on Saturday when they travel to take on Franklin Pierce at 3:00 p.m.
