Ten Different Skyhawks scored in Stonehill's 11-2 win. |
Bridgewater, Mass. - Stonehill's offense
exploded for 11 goals to defeat the Worcester State Lancers (1-17,
1-8 ECAC) Saturday afternoon. Brian Davis'
(Foxboro, Mass.) two goals and an assist headlined an offensive
explosion in which ten different Skyhawks found the back of the
net. The win evens Stonehill's overall record at 5-5-1
heading into Tuesday's match up with Wentworth.
The Lancers drew first blood just seconds into the first period
when sophomore Lee Belisle flipped an early shot past Stonehill
goaltender Mike Manna (Framingham, Mass.).
The Skyhawks bounced back, scoring four consecutive goals starting
with Chase Feole's (Windham, N.H.) beautiful move
in front of the net.
Momentum switched the Skyhawks' side after Anthony
Zanetti (Ludlow, Mass.) scored on a break away to put
Stonehill up 2-1. Davis and Paul Reissfelder
(Plymouth, Mass.) added markers within 15 seconds of one another to
increase their lead to 4-1.
Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.) executed an
outstanding, threw-the-legs pass to sophomore Chris
Rogers (Westford, Mass.), who was waiting in front of the
net for Stonehill's fifth goal of the period. Worcester
State's Mark Bucci sneaked a wrist shot by Manna with 21 seconds
remaining to make the score 5-2 at the end of the first.
The second period was more of the same for the Skyhawks.
Midway through John Yokow (Windsor, Conn.)
nailed home a pass from Feole to put Stonehill up 6-2. Two
goals from Ryan MacInnis (Simsbury, Conn.) and
John Sommers (Manchester, Conn.) led to goal
change for the Lancers.
The Lancer's new goaltender, Andrew Evans, did not fair any better
against Stonehill's red hot offense. Davis would score once
more, followed by John Durkin's (Scituate, Mass.)
third period goal. With seconds remaining, Stonehill held a
commanding 10-2.
The combination of Matt Curran (Scarborough,
Maine) and O'Brien struck once more on a backhand goal from Curran
with just over a minute remaining. O'Brien, Reissfelder and
teammate Peter Roundy (Simsbury, Conn.) finished
with three assists each. Curran's seventh marker leads the
team.
The Skyhawks return to action Tuesday night when they take on
Wentworth at the Bridgewater Ice Arena. The puck drops at
7:00 p.m.
