Suffolk Spoils Skyhawks' Opener

Boxscore

Boston, Mass. - The 2006-2007 Northeast-10 Conference Champions' season opener was spoiled by Suffolk's Kyle Cook, who netted a pair of goals and added two assists, and Tim Dancey, who added a goal and two assists to lead Suffolk to a 6-2 non-league college ice hockey victory over the Skyhawks Tuesday evening at Walter Brown Arena.

Markers off the sticks of Dancey and senior Dan Pencinger that came a minute apart midway through the opening period staked the host Rams (1-0) to a 2-0 advantage after only 20 minutes of play.  Cook notched both of his tallies in the first 4:18 of the second period to extend Suffolk's lead to 4-0.

Junior Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.) got the Skyhawks on the board with a power play goal with just under four minutes to play in the second.

Suffolk answered back when junior John Rocchio added a power play tally of his own just 1:51 later to give the Rams a 5-1 cushion after two periods.

The two teams traded goals in the final period, as junior Scott Zanolli accounted for the Suffolk score with just under five minutes to play.  Senior John Durkin (Scituate, Mass.) closed out the Stonehill scoring with 3:12 remaining.  The 6-2 loss drops the Skyhawks to 0-1 under first year head coach Garry Hebert.

Senior Anthony Zanetti (Ludlow, Mass.) assisted on both goals in the setback for the Skyhawks, who also received a single assist off the stick of sophomore Chris Rogers (Westford, Mass.).

Freshman goaltender Mike Manna (Framingham, Mass.) made 20 saves in his first collegiate outing for Stonehill, as the Skyhawks outshot the Rams by a 29-26 margin.

Stonehill hosts Salve Regina in another non-league outing on Saturday afternoon in Bridgewater, Mass. beginning at 2:00 p.m.
