Northeast-10 Conference Announces Winter Sportsmanship Award Recipients

South Easton, Mass. - The Northeast-10 Conference named the Stonehill Ice Hockey (12-11-2, 3-2 Northeast-10 Conference) team the Conference's hockey representative of the 2007-2008 Winter Sportsmanship Award.  The Skyhawks averaged 15.6 penalty minutes per game, nearly seven minutes better than Assumption College's 23.0 average for the NE-10's top spot.

The awards program honors one team from each of the conference's 23 championship sports that has exemplified the spirit of sportsmanship and generally conducted themselves with a higher degree of integrity, character and class. During the season the awards were decided upon by a vote of each of the conference's teams head coach, team captain and Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative in their respective sports.

"I could not be more proud of our group of guys.  What a team!" said Head Coach Garry Hebert of his Skyhawks. "They deserve this honor.  They played with passion and they played with class.  A true conformation that this team has superlative character, leadership and temperance in the mist of the competitive, yet artful battle known as Ice Hockey."

The Skyhawks finished the best overall record in the Northeast-10 Conference, 12-11-2.  Their season was cut short, however by Saint Michael's College in the Northeast-10 Conference Semifinals.
