Ninteau's Third Period Goal Ties Salve, 2-2

Boxscore

Portsmouth, R.I. - For the second time this season the Skyhawks (10-9-2, 2-1 Northeast-10) tied the Salve Regina Hawks (10-9-4).  This time, however, the men were able to snap a two game losing streak that began last Wednesday against Southern N.H.  After winning four of five games earlier this month, Stonehill finished this past week 1-2-1.

For the second straight game, the opponent struck first.  Salve Regina's Jake Pickard found the back of the net just 6:53 into the first period.  Stonehill answered with Rob Carpenter's (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) third goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1 midway through the second frame.

The Hawks' Conor McCahill gave Salve Regina the lead again with his tenth score of the year just minutes into the final frame.  Determined not to lose their third straight game, junior defenseman Billy Ninteau (Litchfield, N.H./Bishop Guertin) scored for the second consecutive game at 8:05.

The teams played a scoreless overtime period.  Seniors Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine/North Yarmouth) and Brian Davis (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) registered assists in the Skyhawks' second tie this year.

Freshman Mike Manna (Framingham, Mass./Xaverian) made 31 saves in 65 minutes of action.  Likewise, Salve Regina's Pat Enloe stopped 46 shots in his four periods of play.  Stonehill out-shot the Hawks 48-33.

The men return to action Tuesday night when they travel to Saint Michael's for a 6:00 p.m. start.
